Listening to the Carpenters...

...leaves me so appreciative of the music, but it also makes me feel sad.

I need some sort of antidote.

Suggestions?

Hint: tried Simon and G... it didn't help.

I still feel like Karen Carpenter had one of the greatest female voices of all times.  If I here her come on the radio, I almost always stop what I am doing and just listen to that voice.

What's the group or duo I keep confusing with the Carpenters?  Dang...  Oh well, I'll think of them eventually.

There's also Carly Simon and James Taylor.
Plus I can really get into some ABBA from time to time.
Hmm...  Now I've got a list of others from that time going through my head!  (Dan Fogleberg, Jim Croce, Cat Stevens, Poco, and others to numerous to name - lol!)

*Bing!*  Just remembered the other duo:  Captain and Tenille.  Of course, Muskrat Love always makes me want to hurl...

One cool thing about comparing the Carpenters to Captain and Tenille is the opportunity to compare songs written by Bacharach to Sedaka.

I used to write off the Carpenters as bubblegum back in the 70's.  I'd only heard the same few hit songs on AM pocket radios for a long time.  I finally got to listen to a whole album on a good stereo and what a difference!  Performance, songs, production were all top shelf.  I didn't run ou and get all their albums--I was more into prog at the time--but they did earn my respect.  Now, I will listen to them on the radio.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?
