Listing Theme Issues

There seems in my mind 3 issues with theme editor, I think some have just escaped the process and others are development.
1. Item has no edit function (hard coded)
2. Item has an edit function, but is not functioning.
3. Item is shared, but would be useful to have it's own control.

I was thinking we could collate these in a thread so that when editing we can one, know what's happening so not to waste time going over changes trying to figure it out, and 2, get them resolved by Cake.

1. Item has no edit function (hard coded)
Control Panel, Performance meters fixed in dull orange.
Inspector Window (Clip and or Track) Backgrounds?
Inspector Window (Clip and or Track) Text?
Horizontal Slider (Vol, Trim, Pan, etc.) Backgrounds?
Horizontal Slider (Vol, Trim, Pan, etc.) Name Text?

2. Item has an edit function, but is not functioning.
Master Control Bar Backgound (Colour)
http://forum.cakewalk.com...-m3466587.aspx#3466587

3. Item is shared, but would be useful to have it's own control.
Control Menu's Tool bar duration button uses 'Focused Track Text' for the colour.
Punch, Select and loop all use 'Unfocused Track Text' for the colour.
Track View and Console view shouldn't share icons.

I'll update this first post with others as they are given.

I have a nomination for category #3: Track icons are shared between Console and Track views.

This thread is a great idea. However, maybe it could also provide solutions to esoteric issues. For example, I'm about to ask "In Track View, the track number in a track's upper left corner?" If there isn't a way to change it, then it would get filed into one of the three categories in post #1. But if there is a way to change it, a list could start of these "it's not obvious but now you know" theme elements. Come to think of it you could just convert your post #3 into having this function. I don't think it would get too lengthy because people are only going to ask about elements they can't figure out easily.

BTW this thread really will save people time, I already saw a few things I've been going crazy trying to change which apparently are hard-coded.

I've not messed with these areas so much. Are you saying that it would be much better if they weren't shared, or just useful to know?

This was my intention. When I stared the thread I almost replied to the first post so that suggestions would for common questions would come in the second post. I'm hoping we get a sepearte area for theme issues though and that when the issues in post one are ironed out, this thread becomes defunft, but the common questions wouldn't. So in a way I'm split of whether this should also contain FAQ.

I'm happy to add them in for the time being though.

Afterthought. After our comments on being able to exchange whole areas from other themes, I'm guessing you're suggesting that track and control icon should be able to changed independently.

I'll edit the above post and the feature request

I like that they are linked. I'd hate to have to change then separately.

Craig, are you saying the TV track #s cant be changed? I know they could in X1-3.

Dont know if TE can change fonts but in X1-3 they were in the string section of the tsres###.dll reachable with a resource editor. Though they tended to be rather global in nature. A nice feature would be changeable fonts per view, not global.

It may be possible, but I haven't figured it out.

Re Track icons: There's one default (i.e., not custom) track icon for all occurrences in TV and CVm with a white graphic on a black background. I'm working on a theme where the Console view is mostly white and the Track view is mostly black, so I'd like icons with the black background for Track View, and with a white background for Console view. I can choose one or the other.

Of course, the point becomes moot when you use custom icons so it's not super-important.

Track #s were changeable in the Preferences Colors window, though you had to hunt for it.

The default icons are in the tsres---.dll file along with the rest of the .png graphics which is why you cannot "normaly" change them. I would think TE could access them but I don't have Splat or TE to confirm.
