Little Late to the Party - Dimension and Dimension LE Installation Tips

Hi, I couldn't resist snapping up P5 at the current prices after watching it for a few years and thought I'd drop in and say hello. Brandon Ryan's video from Messe 05 on Sonic State actually hooked me when I saw it way back, but I didn't actually get around to buying until now.  I've had good and bad experiences with the program so far, but I wanted to give some tips to the next guy on getting this running. Both Dimension and Dimension LE are great synthesizers and are able to share their programs fully, but only if P5 is installed in the right order.

V2 boxed gets you Dimension and sounds
2.01 Updates Dimension's SFZ spec and changes CPU usage etc
2.5 adds LE with its own content
2.5.1 Fixes the bugs etc but no changes to LE I'm aware of

I skipped the 2.01 maintenance release first time around thinking 2.5 would take care of it but this negatively affected the abilities of Dimension. After 2.5 is installed, 2.0.1 can no longer be applied, so I started over from scratch. This may have been mentioned before but I thought it might be good to pass on. If you plan to use Dimension, install 2.0.1 before updating to 2.5.

The method for sharing multisamples and programs has been posted here before.

I've kind of gone through a similar process shifting from P5 to S8.5 with DimLE but without a satisfactory result so far. I originally had DimLE installed by P5 V2.5 DL which set it up as a DXi. This then worked with the existing device chains, etc for it. But with EOL for P5, I shifted to S8.0 and then S8.5. While most of the earlier P5 instruments and effects shifted fairly well, DimLE has been a problem as Sonar invalidated the P5 version ( which now claims to be a demo only version ). While I can still manually load the S8 VST version of the DimLE, my device chains are now all broken as they look for the DXi. Of course, there was also some setting up of paths, etc to my programs for S8-DimLE and a re-install of the Proteus presets I got for it.

Anyone know how to disable the DXi version from the P5 install ( demo version only now ), much less get the Sonar version of DimLE installed to transparently replace it in Sonar and P5 ? Actually, there's a bunch of old P5 stuff that got reset as demo's that I'd like to get out the DXi list. And while I'm on a rant, one of my CW 'utils' converted dozens of VST's to DXi interfaces further cluttering my registry. A clean-up suggestions would be appreciated, though the DimLE is the most functionally distressing.

This is the DL version upgrade of 8 and 8.5. I tried the selective re-install for just the DimLE instrument but no joy, though I may be missing something in the instructions. Frankly, I prefer the VST's over the DXi's just to avoid having to muck with the WinDoze registry ( Vista-32 ) to sort things like this out.

No, I'm not going to do another re-install of P5 at this point in my life ( particularly without understanding what may happen to S8 ).

I'm not familiar with the S8 or S8.5 installs, but do they allow for a DXi version of LE to be installed as an option? If so, an install of the Sonar DXi to the original location should take care of it. I think if your P5 LE DXi was modified, a reinstall of the DXi would probably be needed. You should be able to remove any DXis from showing in Sonar using the Plugin Manager.

Thanks for suggestions. So, I tried the DimLE ver 1.3 DL and installed the DXi only. No joy. Still shows up as an expired Beta. Went back to Sonar8 install. This only offers the VSTi of DimLE and Rapture ( no DXi ). So, then I went back to my P5 Version 2.5 setup and re-installled the DXi from there and still no joy. Really weird.
I'm using DXMan to clean up the DXi list and get rid of the P5 effects that got reset to demo's, and the 50 or so VST's that had gotten remapped as DXi's by an old CW util.
However, attempting to remove the DimLE DXi entry within DXMan gives the following error: This beta version has expired and something about a Beta Test Site Agreement. I have know idea where that's coming from but the DXi entry can't be removed. I'll try taking this over to the Sonar thread.

P5 directs me here when trying to load a device chain with DimLE from the SD_LE_Pack: http://www.cakewalk.com/Owners/GetPlugin.asp?CLSID_1=B8ACEDF1-3FB1-48C3-8348-57B21B3D4AF5&NAME_1=LE
