Live 4 Today
Its been a very long time since I have drifted down to the songs forum. I moved half way round the world from home a little over a year ago. Still things are not setup the way I would like in the studio. I have been writing anyway and here is a rough cut of my latest song. This is a happy raggae song called "Live 4 Today". http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11539883 My father passed away about 2 months ago. I had the priviledge of being his caregiver and living with him and Mom for that past few years. Anyway he is the inspiriation for the tune because during the last year of his life we were living in a tropical paradise and he spent every day exploring our surroundings and asking questions etc. It kind of drove me nuts at the time, it was like having another kid in the house. Each day was another blessing and each meal was the best he ever had. At least thats what he always told my wife. Now I miss it and him and this is my way of thanking him for the life lesson he gave me during the last year. Enjoy.

Hi Tom. I am sorry to hear of your fathers passing. I think this song is quite touching. Lower the volume of the organ and the guitar (just a smidgeon) and I think it will flow more smoothly

Sorry to hear of your dad's passing. But that was an inspiring story and this is quite a cool song to remember him by. I wonder what this would sound like a couple notes lower? Maybe a little easier to sing? Love the playing and singing and it's a cool tune.

Hi Tom, well, loss is tough , I'm sorry to hear about your father. Oh yeah, it is nice to hear some Reggae on this forum I'm originally from NYC I used to play out live and record w various Reggae bands before I moved out to the West . Yeah , your voice sounds good I like the simple arrangement , it is true to the genre the drums and bass sound spot on . the guitar and the organ sound good , they just need to be dialed in a little better w the levels .. all the best , Kenny

Thanks everyone for listening and for you condolences. Twisted6s: thanks for the comments. I am adjusting the Guit and Organ levels now. MGH: I assume bu "squelch" you mean the Djembe. I stroke the head with one hand while slapping the edge with the other. Cool sound. I have been wanting to use it but until recently did not understand how to get the most out of it. I just recorded a few bars with the hit on each beat then created a loop and used the mute tool to mute to ones I did not want. The trick that was eluding me before was to use the compressor to almost eliminate the strike and keep the stroke if you will. Janet: Thanks for listening. Actually I will probably redo the lead vocal. I am working on some minor changes to the end. Probably will not change the key though. Kenny: Thanks a lot. I listened to a few of you Vids you are one of my new heroes. Radio: Thanks for listening glad you enjoyed it. Bapu: Thanks Glad you Liked it.

I'm sorry for your loss, too. I've been through that. The lyrics are poignant but the music is uplifting, which is not easy to do. I think you have a good voice for reggae, and your performance was heartfelt. Very good.

Soundclick wouldn't load but I want to tell you that your paragraph after the link was a great story and made me think of my parents. I loed the "question asking" part. I just had a great visual reading that. I'll try the song later. Maybe it was my isp.

tom - i was referring to the guitar tone as the squelch - i always think of that tone as being quite wet...but i like your description of the drum.

Thanks Lynn. Evadianepug I hope you got it to load eventually. MGH Glad you responded. I was wondering what you were referring to. That is the autowah on GuitarRig 4 that coms with X1. Glad you liked it. I am working on re doing the guitar part because a friend complained about some timeing issues. I could have just uses AS but I decided to try to play the part tighter first. I will post an update when I finish the remix. Currently I have been distracted by some idea that I could produce an interisting samba. LOL Thanks for listening and commenting everyone. And I appreaciate all the condolences as well. Peace!
