I cant decide which one to get I tried the demos and still cant decide which one is better please help me out. I made the horrible mistake of purchasing Adobe Audition 1.5 and I hate it.

How do you make your music? Alone at home, or are you tracking a complete band, live? Sonar is in another league compared to Adobe.

Yep What do you want the software to be able to do for you. ps Wasn't audition a freebie wave editor ? Maybe I'm mixing that up

audition is the former cool edit pro :) they're totally different apps imo... I actually use them both.. between the two they solved all my host wants and needs :) What exactly do you want out of a host?

Yeah, Adobe Audition (CEP) is an excellent program that I often use in conjunction with Sonar. You must have been looking for MIDI sequencing, then, as Audition doesn't do that. Didn't you try the demo of Audition before buying it and hating it?

if you want truly innovative software that has changed the way millions make music, get live. if you're comfortable with "normal" music software .. get sonar. in the end its the song that matters. personally I gig live with .. live but I hate it for sequencing though it is one of the most powerful softwares available.

First, lets start with a list of what you hated about audition..........don't want to run into the same problems with whatever app you choose next.

Well -- big difference in midi implementation, comes down to how you'd use it. Sonar has a complete MIDI implementation, numerous edit views, etc. Live has a good midi implementation, but only a piano roll edit view. Live has an innovative take on audio recording -- you can basically "always" be recording, and you don't have to have the whole, "ready record, rewind, push record, stop, rewind, play recording, decide to do another take" etc. Instead just freely record, and without pushing stop, hit play, hit record on another track, etc. It's very smooth and free flowing. But not as powerful as Sonar. In fact 4.03 (and 5 as well) smooth the audio out a lot. Sonar has a completely flexible bussing and mixing setup that will handle projects of enormous complexity. It's compatible with more 3rd party technologies (dx and dxi) than Live. Though -- most of the players use vst format anyway. So it's really not a fair comparison. I think it's better to compare live to project 5. But good luck anyway.

ORIGINAL: emperorandy I cant decide which one to get I tried the demos and still cant decide which one is better please help me out. I made the horrible mistake of purchasing Adobe Audition 1.5 and I hate it. Andy - As the other posters have said, it all depends .... what exactly are you intending to do with it? For example - Do you just want to record a demo of you and your guitar and then add a vocal? or Do you need to use a lot of synths and samplers? or Do you want to cut a demo CD?, or Do you want an audio tool you can use at live gigs? or Do you want to set up a professional recording studio and earn an income recording others? etc Without this info, it's a bit like saying, "Should I get a SUV, or a Saoon, or a Station Wagon, or a Mini, or a Ute, or a Harchback I can't decide which is best?" As for Adobe Audition, it's an excellent wave editor and works brilliantly with either Sonar or Live. But as a multitrack recorder, its awfulness almost beggars belief.

Obviously, one would always go for a Saoon. On a more serious note...very good questions, unfortunaley Emporerandy seems to have vacated. Wait a mo, isn't Emporer the nikname of the kid on the Kiss chap, Rockschool Reality show ? Is this you or has someone spoofed

Guys sorry I took so long to reply been busy here at work. This is what I need the app for. Recording guitar and mic alone at home. Midi sequencing Production with Reason 3.0 I bought Audition for $129 I use it for multitracking and it really sucks. Also rewiring with Reason is even worse. It does have its advantages but the manual is horrible and the instruction DVD is about $100. And no I didnt try the demo of it. Noo this is not that kid just someone new to digital audio recording, and I had that name for a very long time.

That's exactly what I do and I love Sonar 4... Live is a great program but like somebody said its more comparable to Project 5 than Sonar... I record guitar and vocals through GuitarPort and NI Guitar Rig into Sonar and I use Reason for playing synths and sample patches (mellotrons, horns, etc...) and Reason works well with Sonar.... I never have a problem with it... Go with the SONAR, you won't be disappointed!! Mike
