Live band recording using SPLAT- Poor Pitiful Me
Here's a recording of my band doing Jackson Browne's version of "Poor Pitiful Me". Recorded live on my laptop using SONAR Platinum. Seven channels for drums, three for bass and guitars, and one scratch vocal channel. Vocals were overdubbed later. This was my first attempt at recording an entire band. http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13311584 The computer is a Lenovo laptop with an AMD quad core processor The interface is a Behringer Firepower FCA 1616 with a Focusrite OctoPre for a total of 16 channels. Drums were mic'ed with SM57s on the snare, hihat, and toms; a D12E on the kick; and a condenser mic for overhead, I can't remember the brand on that one. Guitar amps were not in the room. They were also mic'ed with SM57s. Bass was DI. Hope you enjoy it!

You've done a great job of isolating if this was live,, it does not sound live but I would guess that most live bleed is into vocal mikes and you've eliminated that.
SO good job, good tight mix, drums are very well done. Only gripe is the hard panning of guitars, I'd go halfway on that as it looses power.

Thanks Johnny! I should explain that it wasn't a live gig recording, it was done at our practice space. We have a good setup there, the guitar amps weren't in the room so there was no bleed there. Dave (our drummer) sang a scratch vocal track as we were recording which we overdubbed later. The bass was recorded direct. So it was live, just not at a gig. Sorry I didn't make that more clear. As for the guitar panning I wanted to open it up as the arrangement is pretty sparse and I wanted to leave plenty of room in it. Thanks a lot for taking the time to listen and comment, really appreciate it!

This is the sound of a well oiled machine! Your drummer and bassist really drive this. Drummers is a beast! If you were within a 100 miles I'd pay to hear you guys. Do some more of this please. Great harmonies too.

Yep... got to agree.... tight band. And that rhythm section is superb.... Not taking anything away from the other players..... but if the bass and drummer are tight the band is tight. Nice job on the recording. I all honesty I was expecting a "roomy" sounding recording. Very surprised...pleasantly. I've heard Linda Rhondstad and Warren Zevon's version.... you're right in there with them on innovation and quality.
