Live looping in Sonar x3e and new versions

From what I can surmise live looping with a foot controller to overdub and record is not Sonar's strong point.  Rather than switch to Ableton Live which seems to be part of that program's forte, does anyone have experience with live performance looping while using Sonar. 
 
Also, thoughts on and/or sharing experiences using Sonar to record live gigs would be great.
 
Does anyone have knowledge of the difference between Sonar X3e producer and the new professional and platinum in the area of live looping?
