Live performance..........Nexus Point

This was recorded last night at the "One Nation Under God Rally"
It was a Patriotic rally to honor our troops and the one true God.

The song is called..........Help Me Help

I was limited on the number of channels with this band, so the drums
only had over heads and Kick.    Love to hear some feed back on the mix.

    Hi Tim,
I'm always amazed at your capture of the live stuff.  it's really difficult to get a good sound on live work.

having said that, the lead electric sounds very "mid-rangy" and even "band limited"  the electric rhythm sounds very distorted - yeah, I know it's a distorted guitar, but I mean the sound of the recording sounds unnaturally distorted.

vox are really quite good for live.  and considering you only had overheads and kick the drums are quite decent as well.

    overall really good stuff!

    Hi Reece,
Thanks for your time to listen and your comments,  they are very helpful.

I was hired to provide sound at this event and record a live set of the Gibson's.

Nexus Point was the opening act.  No sound check, set up in just a few minutes
before going on.    Throw some mic's up and let'er row.........:)

This is just a freebie that I do.   I will record a few songs of every band that performs.
Offer them 3 live songs for "Free".      (It has helped me get more work.)

Yeah the guitars were Line 6 amps.............Thanks for your advice on the "mid-rangy"
lead.      I'll cut some mid's and let it go.     I don't spend much time on a freebie.
This was mixed in a matter of minutes.     Mostly rolling off lows,  Hi pass filters.

Can't do much to all that "distortion".    What goes in, has to come out, lol .
You don't know how many times I've asked a guitar player to trun down the
distortion................You ought to see the expression on their face, :(      lol.
They don't understand that you "Will" get a better recording with it cleaned-up
    just alittle bit.

    Thanks again...........................Tim

Really good mix for a live recording!  Particularly the vocals.  The lead guitarist is really good, but you're right - too compressed - too distorted.  If he is used to hearing that it will be darn impossible for him to change things right then and there until he sees the light and starts to perform with a different tone on a consistent basis.  As a guitarist myself, how I hear myself affects my technique - a change in tone can make me tense.  And shredding requires a very relaxed right hand.  It's like a vocalist that is used to hearing a bit of reverb - you take that away and it can screw up their technique.  It would be cool if you could capture a dry signal from the guitarist line6 rig, then you could reamp and adjust the distortion / compression later with PODFarm.  But I realize this is very unlikely.  You would have to come in with a USB cable or something, and you'd need his full cooperation.  Way too much trouble.  Better to try to convince him to change his tone!!!

    Anyway - great recording!

    Hi Geno.......

Thanks for your comment.  PODFarm would be cool, but then it wouldn't
really be " The" live performance.   I like to capture a live performance
the best I can so they can hear how they sound live.

We had the grand total of 3min.   to get them set up.
I just close micd the cab's with a Sennheiser e906.
If we would have had more time, I'm sure I could have
    captured his sound better.

Sometimes you just got to roll with it..........:)
    It was a "Freebie"
