Loading East west play into Sonar X3

I would like to know everyone's opinion on how to load multiple EW instruments into Sonar X3.Rightly or wrongly this is how I've always done it but know I'm using more instruments the computer is starting to struggle.
In this piece I have (EW Silver Strings) 2 x violins,2 x Basses,2 x Spicc Violins,2 x Cellos/Violas.I load up a separate instance of Play for each one and when I insert the soft synth into sonar I choose in the options box Midi Source,Synth Track Folder and First synth Audio output.I have been doing it that way with all my soft synths for so long I don't remember why i chose those options. Please feel free to tip in your ideas to tell me where i am going wrong.
I've posted this on the East west website but had no luck yet

Cheers
Justin

Instead, try loading Play in the synth rack and add multiple instruments on different midi channels. You should be able to load six or seven in one instance, assum that your computer can handle it. I've loaded as many as three instances with multiple instruments in this manner and it works pretty well.

I never use Simple Instrument tracks. Ever. Beyond that, frankly, I just use the defaults, except I turn OFF "Enable Midi Transmit" (or whatever it is called) unless I need it to drive another synth. Most of those options define what tracks are created automatically when the synth is inserted. I generally create my own midi tracks and just point them to the the appropriate instance that was loaded.

Your biggest limiting factor with Play with be disk streaming throughput.  The easiest way to resolve it is to store the samples on SSD drives, or by spreading the various libraries onto multiple disks.

Hmmm.

My old Silver version of EWQLSO only ran in the (older) Kontakt player, not Play.

Can you confirm which player you're using?

I'd recommend the same solution with Kontakt as well.

I seem to remember having to insert separate instances in Kontakt for each instrument and just running a stereo pair out of each one.

Play is a lot more flexible in this respect

I guess it depends on your version of Kontakt. I've only ever used K5, so it works a lot like Play, at least the way I use it. My last project had 3 instances of K5, each running 3-5 libraries, and 3 instances of Play, each loaded with 5-6 "articulations" from various libraries. Everything went fairly smooth, though I was relieved when I was able to get to a point where I could start unloading samples. I don't like to live on the edge for too long, lol.
