Herb, Jbow, and Bat - Thanks so much for the excellent advice/tips. I'll check around for an authorised Boogie tech in the Orlando area.

The Blue Angel is a combo 1x12 and has really great clean tone(s). I bought it at Musician's Friend for about $1100 (I think), but that was maybe 9-10 years ago when I played in a blues/rock band. Now, with doing all my music on the PC, I haven't really needed to plug it in (especially with my little ones sleeping at night......when I can actually do some recording). That's kind of the reason I thought of fixing it and selling it.

This being somewhat of a "vintage" amp that's not in production anymore, you guys have got me thinking if I should just repair it, use it a bit, and then decide.

if it were me...

i'd find someone who makes 'headshells', and convert it into a head only.

then, get a nice empty closed back 1x12 cab (like an Avatar) and put that speaker in it.

if you dig it, then maybe move up to a 2x12, or if you have the back for it, a 4x12.....

i find the head / cab combo to be a great way to hold onto a killer rig, but make it easier to move around.

if you were to plug that amp into a marshall 4x12 loaded with greenbacks, you would fall in love with it all over again.

I'm a big fan of going the head and cab route.  I'm also a big fan of Avatar speakers and Dave, their owner, is very easy to talk with and he provides excellent customer service!  I think I've had in excess of 15 of their cabs and even more speakers...

Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!

Pull it from the combo and put it in a head? Ruin an expensive collectors item?

I hook my cabinets up to my combo amps all the time.

I use a piece of cable.

Works great.

well, you hold onto the original shell/combo, and if you decide to sell it, put it back in.

my guess is, if you go to the trouble to do the head shell switch, you aint gonna be sellin' it.

if you do lots of gigs and travel, carrying a big heavy mesa combo really sucks @ss.
