Glad to see it finally released! I don't think there was a lot wrong with Logic 9, but looking forward to seeing how good flex pitch is (as I don't have Melodyne), and curious about whether drummer will be any good. Andy

Bah, Logic 9 is so good I'm not sure I'll be upgrading... ;) Man, this caught me off guard this morning - even before my morning coffee. That's the thing w/ Apple and Logic - there's no sneak peak or such. You wake up one morning just like every other morning since 2009 and then you see an article by EM in your Facebook Newsfeed and you realize that this isn't a hoax - Logic X is here. My X wishlist or list of tiny improvement wasn't all that big. Little things like having MIDI plug-ins and access to an arpeggiator w/o having to mess w/ the environment layer will be cool. That's the thing w/ Logic - you could do any and everything w/ the modular-ish thing called environment. But having that stuff conveniently warped as a plug-in definitely is a plus. I don't use pitch correction all that much. The only vocalist I record is my wife and it'll be raining frogs before you find a note she can't hit or a vocal line she can't nail. I'm curious to see it in action, but I may not be the best person to ask about that stuff. Same for drummer - though it looks like an interesting idea, I doubt that it'll replace Superior Drummer. I love the synths in Logic so it's good news to read that they've received some TLC and that there's been a few additions to the family. Having just recently added a bass to our rig, I'm also curious to hear the new bass amp. Overall, it doesn't come across as anything revolutionary. As I've been saying all along, version 9 still is pretty much as advanced as anything out there. The most obvious thing it was missing was in track pitch correction and that has been fixed. The one other thing which I thought they might have worked on is an equivalent to VST Expression in Cubase. That thing still puts Cubase in a class of its own, but rounding up, I still think Logic is much better. And cosmetically, I was expecting that they'd come up w/ something darker, as they did for Final Cut. They didn't disappoint. Considering the insane amount of hours I spend staring at that GUI in a week, darker is usually better, though I feel that it's one of the toughest type of color scheme to get right. I think that they might have come up w/ something relatively good. Some things do remind me of certain darker DP themes. Anyway, as always, I'm sure that even the info on the web site is merely scratching the surface and that there'll probably be lots of little things to accommodate my workflow. Since it requires migrating to a new OS, I can't just jump on it right now. I have a couple of things I need to warp up in Logic 9 before, and for that, I prefer to stick w/ my current OS. But I'm pretty excited about it.

I'll be buying/installing it this evening after work. I'm a relative newcomer to Logic and X appears to have fixed my two biggest annoyances (track folders and easy rearrangement of aux tracks in the mixer, although I'm not positive about the latter) and added some really nice new features and layout. I've been using V-Control Pro as an iPad controller, but the new Remote app looks pretty excellent.

Rain Logic guru SF Logic Ninja created this cool informal little 20 minutes video overview for anyone interested. https://www.youtube.com/w...eature=player_embedded
Logic Pro X is looking really good. Improved notation view, drummer, chord tool, etc. Is there a way to trigger audio regions using MIDI, ala Matrix View (X2) or Touch Tracks for MIDI (Logic)?

TBH, I really don't know because it's not something I use/need. In fact, my understanding of the concept is rather limited - if I wanted to do that, I'd just load the regions in a sampler - and optionally have them looping. Wouldn't that work?

I do remember Metro which I first heard of when Cakewalk was its distributor and it was Mac only - and funnily enough, they also had a notation program back then. See how I just used the words Cakewalk, Mac and Notation all in the same positive sentence? ;) Metro is pretty unique. Not for me but I know a few people who could probably appreciate it. There was a huge thread on KVR last winter. As for Logic on the PC, I wouldn't hold my breath. ;)

Well this announcement makes a Mac Pro purchase for me eminent. $200 for a Pro DAW? That seems ridiculously inexpensive. They modeled their context sensitive help function after Ableton Live, which to me, is the best there is - allowing newbees to learn the program really fast. I still struggle finding answers using Sonar's help function. My kids (7 and 10) have already figured out Garage Band on my ipad and iphone - on their own without any help. Logic Pro X took some things from Garage Band, and you can migrate your projects from Garage Band to Logic - so for my kids, Logic Pro X would be the logical next step - as opposed trying to teach them Sonar. It's interesting how close their new dark Color scheme is to Sonar X2. A draw back is the Apple forum. In browsing through the threads there doesn't seem to be a strong community of regulars. It seems impersonal. I could be way off base, but this Sonar forum seems to be far better. Maybe it's because I've spent so much time here.

This looks like a serious piece of software. And a huge surprise which is the Apple way of doing things. As a Mac virgin, I just got my first Apple laptop, I've been thinking of geting Logic to play around with. Looks like a good time to invest in it.
Man, I love Sonar but my growing dislike of Windows and Microsoft is really making the dark side look promising!

Having used Logic X pretty extensively over the last few evenings, I'm pretty impressed with it. I haven't encountered any bugs or instability problems, the new UI is gorgeous (IMO, of course) and better organized, track stacks make a world of difference for a clean freak like me who demands organization within my projects, the new Retro synth, MIDI FX (esp. the arp!), and Drummer are all very cool, and the Remote iPad app is very impressive. It's very cool that it includes a little keyboard/drum pad controller in the Remote app. A lot of people around the web are complaining about Logic X (surprise!) and calling it GarageBand Pro, etc., but not me - I'm loving it.

Glad to read you dig it! I've seen a bunch of people whining and complaining that Logic is now essentially Garage Band. Idiots and haters are always very vocal on the web. According to the reviews from folks who actually know what they're talking about and have used Logic since the 90s in some cases, no features were removed and this new version is simply the best so far. The dimwits complaining that it's GarageBand Pro probably made up their mind after seeing one or two screenshots. That's as much information as their brain can handle anyway, and in many case, even Garage Band would be too good for them.

You can also check out the old Logic User Group. http://www.logic-users-group.com/forums/ Eli Krantzberg who did some incredible Logic tutorials (as well as some tutorials for Pro Tools and even Sonar IIRC) is a regular there. He, along w/ a couple of other very knowledgeable folks collectively know everything there is to know about Logic. Plus, I believe he is from Montreal too, so he has to be one cool fellow. ;)

That's cool Cryophonik! I'm drooling all over this now! I've seen the complaints about it too, similar to what they say about Final Cut Pro X. I have little experience with that but know a lot of pro's I know are tearing their hair out over this. To me, and also from what you say, Logic X hasn't lost that much. Some extreme workflow improvements, yes, but every review I read say that all the deep menus are still there. Holy crap! I think my credit card just started to scream and vibrate!

Yes, Logic is what I use for all my work also these days. I was a avid Sonar user til X1 (from dos til X1) Studio One tickled me a bit but logic just blows me away from what it can do and how well it does it. The fact you get an amazing array of high end plugins, loops everything @ a 200 dollar price point is off the charts. Bravo apple. Its my dreams realized as of late last 2 years and Im very pleased with the outcome. Still miss sonar for time to time but logic has my heart now. Just thought Id share its a great product. Best, Scott

Hey Scott!
Cool info, thanks for sharing your experience!
Just a question, what do you think of the pitch correction thing compared to other 3rd party offerings, and how are the control module things compared to ACT? They looks like their MIDI assignable only rather than sensitive to what's in focus when using hardware controllers.
Cheers!
