Nice song Gary.....listened a couple of times and the mix was quite clear on my H-phones. Your vocals were a slightly drowned by the other instruments though, and could be brought up a little more. Although I really like the bass on this, it might benefit the song if it was lowered a bit to fit in the mix better. Overall, well done on this song!!! Did you play an actual bass or was it sampled instruments? (either way, it sounded nice & full) :))

Song has a catchy rhythm to it. I like the vocals. I think the bass might be just slightly too much. I also agree on the volume of the vocals. As a side note, I think harmony in the chorus would really spice this one up and maybe a pinch of reverb. JMO. The shaker fills in nicely at about a third through. To my ears the first third is a little empty. I'm not sure what to suggest..more rhtythm maybe?

nice vocals, nice lyrics, and a cool little travelogue. mix-wise, the ever-present shaker needs to drop out once in a while, to maintain interest. And I'd drop the volume of the shaker quite a bit. It's as if the song is featuring the shaker. As for the bass, I think the volume is fine, but I wasn't feeling what the bass was playing. I'd lose the choppy short bursts and give it some sustained notes. Just my opinion, but your bassline features a halfstep chromatic move up - do you know the part I mean? It seems like the wrong note at that point. But opinions are like arseholes - pretty vital to the excretive process. :) Your song "Crash My Heart" played immediately after on Soundcloud, and I was glad. that's a great song IMHO and I was sad when more Forumites let that one pass without a comment. Oh well! Keep up the good work! -Tom

Hey garygml, Nice tune you got going on here. I think the diversity the arrangement offers timbrally is definitely really powerful and, as a result, can be difficult to manage. The shakers are competing with your vocals quite bit. Do you know about the TL-64 Tube Leveler plug-in in SONAR. It's really an underrated, unsung hero. I would recommend putting this plug-in on all your tracks, if not, at least on all of your busses, and then mix through the plug-in. I think the type of saturation it offers can really bring a mix to life. Try it out on a mix and let me know what you think.

Gary, this is one of the most refreshing songs I've heard in a while. I kinda like it the way it is. Perhaps the shakers are a bit loud, but many classic recordings use the same technique, so I wouldn't be too fast to judge. Otherwise, this has terrific lyrics that are sung very well, and a great arrangement. I like the way it builds up, and I understand your choices. I'm a fan.

Hi Gary, I agree with the above... This is a good song. As others have said, I'd bring the vocals up a touch in the mix. When "Crash My Heart" kicks in, the vocals are more prominent in the mix and I'd go for that. nice work cheers andy

Sounds like a nice tune as noted above a few tweaks would probably add the final polish, thanks for sharing.

All good listening on my tablet (ie probably the lowest common denominator.) Agree the shaker is a little high in the mix but the vocals seemed right where they should be imo. Nice upbeat feel overall. Good songwriting.
