Long Delay (about 800 ms) when pressing space bar to start playback

Does anyone have the experience of a long delay after hitting the space bar (or the start button) to start playback?
I've already tried lowering my in/out buffer settings but it has no effect.

If you don't find your answer on this thread, let us know. Make sure you are running ASIO driver.

jerry give us your specs and soundcard.
and are your projects stored on a second/external HD or on the main C drive with sonar?

    Thanks guys for the help!

Win7, 64 bit, 16GB RAM, two 7200 rpm hard drives, Nvidia graphics card, MOTU 2408 audio interface, MOTU MIDI Express XT MIDI interface, both interfaces very latest drivers.

What I have found is that this delay disappears when using ASIO, and it returns when using WDM/KS.  So the obviously choice is ASIO.  But ASIO does a funny thing with my preferences.  When I open preferences and apply a change, it takes up to 10 seconds for the apply to take effect and another 10 seconds to close the preferences window.  With the WDM driver it is more or less instantaneous.  So I guess I will use ASIO because I start playback far more frequently than I change my preferences.  Software is so damn complex, it's like the human body.  We can have a problem with one part of the body (a disc problem in the back) and it is felt in some other part (pain in the leg).  Software is like that, turn a switch off or on and suddenly another part of the program has changed its behavior!

On the notion of software being like the human body - Yeah, my body makes noises that let's just say aren't all that welcomed, despite their being somewhat musical (toots and such),

For it has been day-1 problem with X1; but with the exact same hardware The problem
    doesn't exist with 8.5.

    I'm using a delta 1010 m-audi/avid/sw competitor soundcard.

After much time spent with with the support team ( the trie) tryning different things their
finalsay was to blame avid latest w7 drives for the card.

s for my config is the only to go; soory if this sounds negative but if it doesn,'t workby now stop
wasting your, bite the bullet and live with asio.

Oh and i'm using a 2.9 Ghz I7 core with 6 G of Ram withmy W7 running on an SSD drive with audio
files located in the first partition of SATA dedicated audio drive (probably a 7200 RPM-I don't
remember. So speed is not is part of he equation? IMHonestO it's it's a change made to the core
engine of the X series that' the ource of the problem.
