Long Delusions - Piano and Cello

http://www.audiorecording....com/LongDelusions.mp3

I wrote this today as a favor to a friend who is working on a Public Service Announcement about the dangers of heroin.  In short, don't do it!

If this project had any budget I would get a real cellist.  As it is, you'll have to endure VSL.

Cheers,
J

I think this sounds fine and should work perfectly for the PSA.

That was lovely. Well played, well arranged, and I thought the cello sounded amazing for being virtual.

Budget? In our dreams! A lovely piece of music that I am sure will be perfect for the subject. Only one suggestion - the cello is rather far back in the mix and perhaps you could bring it forward just a little with perhaps a little more reverb to bring out the wonderful timbre of the cello (I like VSL!). Either way, I am sure it will be perfect.

Beautiful piece.  It's getting harder each day to tell the difference between a sample and the real thing, especially if one knows how to account for playing technique.

    All the best,

A very invoking piece of music. Well done.

    Hi, Jonas,

This is a really well written and played, very beautiful piece of music!  Both the piano and cello sound fantastic, and the mix is excellent.  This should be perfect for the PSA.

    Great work!

Sounds nice on my system.  Thought it could use alittle high EQ if anything.  Cello volume was good I thought ; )

Thanks to everyone for all the nice feedback.

@Californiamusic: The "temp music" provided to me had a very softly bowed cello with a very deep tone (recorded beautifully).  Every sampled cello I have in my collection sounded  thin and scratchy in comparison to that.  I chose to go as warm as possible by pushing the EQ from 250-500 hz and rolling off the top.  A healthy dose of algorithmic reverb was used to cover my sins.

I thought this was beautiful also...in all aspects. Geat playing, arrangement and writing! Piano is one of the best I've ever heard...what is that? Cello sounded as good as a real one to me....I'd not sweat it. Good choice on the warmth in this particular piece. I think adding a bit more presence would have made the piano sound too plinky and everything else would have a bit more shock value in a not so good way. However, you could add a little upper air frequencies to it with a tight Q that may push nicely for a different take on the mix, but I'd not change a thing with this...beautiful work.

The piano is Pianteq 4 STAGE ($129).  As a piano player I've always liked the playability of Pianoteq.  It really has the phrasing nuances of an acoustic instrument, moreso than any sampled piano I've played.

With the update to v4 they've really improved the sound considerably. Though there are some terrific sounding gargantuan-sized piano sample libraries out there, this kills them all when the sustain pedal is down IMO.  How they do this with only 20 megabytes is amazing.

Sounds really nice jsaras!  I can not tell at all that the piano or cello are sampled instruments, they sound absolutely beautiful.
