Look At Yourself After Watching This.

A more than well worth seeing video about an outstanding person. Look at yourself after watching this.

That actually took me several days to muster the courage to watch it closely all the way through.

Now there's a guy truly walking the walk.

Thanks for that Mooch.  Breathtakingly inspiring.

What he said... I couldn't help but think that the courage this man has mustered is great... but so is his predicament. I had trouble getting past the thought that we might be seeing him on his good days... and then a forlorn sadness entered my mind.

    Thanks for the link Mooch.

Good point, Mike.  All of us have good days and bad. The sad thing is, those of us that have FAR fewer disabilities than he has...I wonder if we're ever as joyful and thankful as he is?  Yes, I'm including myself in that lot.

That's what made me think...and I think that was his point.

Like my young friend in a wheelchair since he was 3 (head-on with a drunk driver ).  He copes quite well...unbelievably well, actually. His parents did a great job helping him grow up not feeling sorry for himself.  He can be the life of the party.  But my son is one of best friends and he sees him 'real' when no one else is around....liek the time their other friend was just wishing he had something (don't know what), and this guy says, 'I wish I could walk.'  He would never put a damper on conversation with anyone else, (in fact, he usually jokes about it), but his best friends know he struggles on the dark days.  We all need each other...

(the cool thing is he's finally got a girlfriend now...and she's the cutest, sweetest thing ever...we've all got our fingers crossed for him) :)

And where did that come from?  I don't know...it's early on a Sunday morning.  Carry on.   :)

Inspiring and uplifting, and also a charming speaker.

What if he had not been born with ability to communicate so well? I don't mean being deaf or dumb, but some sort of an average moron "yeah...dunnoh....yeah...like....really....seriously?"

What if he had not been born with ability to communicate so well?
Heh, communicating isn't a genetically produced talent Kalle!  Anyone can learn to communicate well.  It wouldn't surprise me that he excels at it because it doesn't have to spend a lot of time and effort learning the many things we take for granted using our arms and legs.  In other words, I spent YEARS learning and playing sports as well as trying to play guitar not to mention video games and using a computer.  Without arms and legs I would obviously be spending most of that time learning and doing whatever I was actually capable of doing which, in his case, is interacting with others (whether he wanted to or not I'm sure).

The thing that sets him apart is his attitude.

I've mentioned it before but I learned a lot about these types of things while working on a PhD and everything that happens is just an event.  The event itself isn't good, evil, positive, negative, the cure to everything or the end of the world.  What's important is how we react to the event.  Some people automatically react to a event that most of us would consider challenging by having a large, stressful and ultimately unproductive emotional panic.  Others, dealing with the same event, react more calmly and look to address whatever the issue is instead.  Needless to say, one of those paths leads to high blood pressure, health problems and, usually, a continuation of the issue while the other path can have both a positive effect as well as taking care of the issue in a productive manner.

Unfortunately, most people lately tend to expect that everything will be given to them or taken care of for them, and that any problems that arise are not their fault (in other words, they don't take responsibility for whatever happens in their lives).  This is detrimental because it makes them unqualified to handle the daily stresses and challenges that life throws their way.  Instead of attacking each issue as an opportunity to grow, they freak out and become a puddle of useless flesh.
