Looking for 8 mic-pre --> ADAT + Firewire

Hi Guys,
I'm looking for an interface which has 8 mic-pre amps, and can output all 8 channels via ADAT and 1394.

So far I've found the following:

~$700 PreSonus FireStudio 26x26
~$700 M-Audio ProFire 2626
~$550 Motu 8pre

Anything else out there I should be looking at?

-edit:

Alternatly, perhaps we'll go for 8pre -> ADAT out and get an ADAT PCI card if it's cheeper / better option.
This is not for my machine, but for my roommates. We would like it to have ADAT so we can also, plug into my RME.
He currently has the Echo Mia MIDI, so the interface would have to play nicely w/ that.
Advise (as always) greatly appreciated.

Tomek.

Not sure about the Motu 8pre, but it might output on both at the same time. Unfortunatly there manuals are not really readily available.

Windows 7 Pro 64bit, Core i7 920, Asus p6td deluxe, Sonar X1c PE, Motu 2408 mk3, Apogee Mini DAC, 3x UAD-1, Digimax FS, Motu Microlite, MCU, Tranzport, Nocturn. And more...

Any Idea which models have ADAT out and 1394?

    -edit:

looks like they have the "8pre" I've added it to the list.
    Thasnks, Tomek.

if you're looking at the Motu 8pre keep in mind the 8 out via the adat is at 44.1 khz. If your adat pci card has 2 inputs you'll get all 8 at 98k. You only get 8 out at 96 k via the firewire with one connection.

This may not be an issue for you but I was hoping to add 8 channels of 96 k via the adat to my 896hd, which only has one adat in, so all the channels would show up in Cue Mix on one board but it as near as I can tell, if I go that way, I'll have two Cue Mix panels. Not the end of the world but a little clumsy.

    Excellent thanks guys!
Not so sure the FF800 has 8 pre-amps though.

Can anyone comment on the Pre-amp, AD, and Driver quailty of the following units:

    ~$700 Focusrite Saffire PRO 26i/o
    ~$700 PreSonus FireStudio 26x26
    ~$700 M-Audio ProFire 2626
    ~$550 Motu 8pre

I know the PreSonus devices had problems automaticaly switch sample rates when loading projects.
Never been a big fan of M-audio's fidelity, but haven't heard the unit in question.
Motu, I've read thier drivers work better in OSx. Is this still the case? How's the 8pre's fidelity?

Looking at getting the 8pre myself to add to my 896hd so I'd like to know about the preamps too.

As far as the drivers go: I use my 896 on a mobile rig and studio system. One is in asio the other in wdm since each works better depending. I've had no problems with the interface or the drivers. It sounds very good (though if and when I get that 8pre I'll probably send the 896 off for the Black Lion mod) 2.7 ms latency, good enough for me. All in all, I've found the gear to be very good.

The biggest issue for me is that MOTU seems to have very little patience or interest in supporting issues for Windows users. This is unfortunately since I would expect that group buys more product than the MAC crowd, or would with a little marketing. And I expected the driver to support auto rate like the Presonus you mentioned. Even my old STAudio C-port, the most maligned card that's ever existed apart from Sound Blaster, did that flawlessly. It must be done manually (so I'd call the drivers adequate but stupid like MOTU's support)

Fortunately, there are enough experienced MOTU users here that I've a good place to go when I get no response or snide comments to my questions there.

If you select ADAT as useable inputs, it will show up in Cuemix. You can grab the end of the Cuemix window and drag it out to view all those inputs! I have my light pipe connected between two MOTU 896's to use Cuemix during the recording process. I have not recorded those ADAT inputs directly to Sonar. I'm sure it can be done.
