Looking for 80's synth sounds
Can someone lead me to a SFZ with some 80's type synth sounds. Something along the lines of "Jump" from Van Halen. I've searched Proteus vx, Kore player (massive) but cant seem to find anything. Thanks, Ken

Can't help you in regards an SFZ, but there are some good VST's available. I really like the Korg Legacy Collection myself. Have you looked at the options Digital Sound Factory has provided for Cakewalks Dimension and Rapture. http://www.digitalsoundfactory.com/cakewalk_products.php Hopefully others have more to offer! I'd go over to KVR and check out their forums and LARGE number of synths/patches.... you are BOUND to find what you're looking for.

+++ OPX absolutely rules for Rush/VH Oberheim sounds, and lots of other stuff too. OPX-Pro is one of my all time favorite synths. And you can start with the basic player version and upgrade without getting charged extra.

The original synth on Jump was an Oberheim OBXa. You might look for a vst emulation of same.

What a great thread this turned out to be - thanks to "keneds" for asking the question.
Digging throught the samples and free ones and there are some great suggestions here. I can't believe how good the Super Wave sounds for a free synth.

FWIW, Omnisphere has a lot of great "classic" synth sounds.
Eric Persing (owner of Spectrasonics) is the genius behind a lot of great 80s (Roland) synth sounds.

anyone tried it yet??? my norton flaged it and put it in quarnentine for reputation ws.
it means not many downloads so it finds it suspisous behaviour. thats one thing i cant stand about norton a.v. it did this with my driver download on my focusrite saffire.because if under a 100-500 people download it.they find it to be suspisious.

VSTi are the way to go. Much more tweakability than sample based stuff. GForce's ImpOscar is a VST that springs to mind. A definitive 80's Synth. http://www.gforcesoftware.com/ins_imposcar.php Some one also mentioned the Korg Legacy collection. I have the monopoly and its great. Demo versions are available http://www.korguser.net/shop/software/ Sample based - Hollow Sun have some good stuff but you would need the full version of Kontakt. Have you checked out the free version of SampleTank thats been discussed here recently? there is probably something in there.

SampleTank does have a bunch of good 80's synths. I ended up (on a group buy last year) with a large library of OBX sounds, but don't know if that's available now......eSoundz.com has a lot of sample packs.

Nice audio demos.! Has anyone had these working in 64 bit Sonar?
The op-x pro II works fine for me on windows 7 64 bit with 64 bit Sonar, but its still a 32 bit VSTi. It works fine with bitbridge, and also with Jbridge, as long as the GUI refresh tick box is set. There is a demo so that you can test it works on your system ok. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but if you want 80s sounds, it really does sound good. Its a lot more tweakable than you are likely to get with samples and has a richness you rarely get in softsynths. Cheers James
