Looking at the videos of both of these theremins on youtube it's a bit disappointing to be honest because what determines the sound of the theremin isn't so much it's particular sound but how it's played and it's far too obvious that these are played on keys. I downloaded the demo (I think) but it doesn't seem to load properly in Kontakt Steve

Maybe it's just me, but a theremin is is one of the last things i would actually buy as a plugin or patch for a synthn. Part of the reason is i happen to own a hardware theremin, but even prior to owning one, I have to agree with twaddle. The characteristics of a theremin is in how it's played. The basic sound is simple and not very difficult to create in basic freeware synths. This is coming from a guy who totally sucks at programming synths. This sounds a little better than spooky keys , but not much. I have no doubt that most of Sonar's included synths could create something similar or better and the challenge would still be replacing the raw expressiveness controlling vibrato with subtle hand movements.

This is probably the closest you'll come to a real theremin at that price. This is actually cheaper than the Kontakt one though I wonder if you can buy some kind of midi controller that behaves in the same way as a theremin? Might not be much cheaper than the real thing though  Steve

As above, almost any synth can do a "theremin" sound. Portisaid famously used a mono analog. There also used to be a BBC plug in, you might look there.

This may sound odd, but I suspect a midi wind controller may work well to create theremin like expression
