Looking for a good clean piano soft synth

Hi, i am new (some months of use) to Sonar Artist Edition.

I am interested on getting a good and clean piano virtual instrument or soft synth. I have used the one that comes with Cakewalk TTS (Piano1, 2 and 3), but i am trying to find one a bit better. I know there is True Pianos for $199 but also don't want to spend so much money. I just need a good piano sound, at least 1.

Dimension PRO might have a few good ones, but there is no demo to see how they sound. Also at the Cakewalk Store i see the Stainway Grand Piano (Does this work with Sonar)? Is this only one instrument?

How many piano sounds are on Dimension PRO?

Thanks

Have you explored Rapture Session? It comes with Sonar Artist.

XLN Audio Addictive Keys might be worth checking out.

Edited to add:

Addictive Keys has a demo for Studio Grand that has some limitations but might be useful depending on your needs:

From the web site:
NO TIME LIMIT - use it as long as you like
INCLUDES demo version of the acclaimed Studio Grand (4 octaves, 3 mic perspectives)
THE FULL VERSION of Studio Grand offers all 88 keys and 6 mic perspectives - or buy any of the other AK instruments or bundles

Kontakt Player is free, and Native Instruments has a good reputation.

There are a lot of piano emulations out there -- from free to expensive. I've you could give us a better idea of what you're looking for specifically (grand, upright, etc.), and what your budget range is, you'll likely get better recommendations.

google/bing free piano VSTiand you will find a number of free pianos.  Maybe one or more of these will be what you are looking for in a piano sound.

The reason people say the vinyl sounds better is because the music was better.

True Pianos is pretty decent.  Comes with Plat.  Sample Tank has some good pianos too.

I use XLN Addictive Keys (Studio Grand, Mark One and Electric Grand), also True Pianos, and Dimension Pro has great Piano sounds too.

XLN Addictive Keys are sweet indeed, both Grand and Upright.
If you have Focusrite or Novation hardware, you'll get one for free.
Sonivox EightyEight is quite worthwile even at its low price under $20, and has some great layering capabilities.
Moving up in price, yet still under $50, have a look at the ones by Sampletekk, definitely if the 60% off sale is on.
Next, under $100, check out ImpactSoundworks Pearl Grand, SoundIron Emotional Piano and CineSamples Piano-In-Blue.
A little bit more will get you that sweet Mercury Grand by Wavesfactory or the Rosewood Grand by OrangeTreeSamples.
Then also look into the Native Instruments pianos, preferably as part of their Komplete bundle.
VI Labs TrueKeys are wonderful too, but you just missed the $199 sale.
And then there's the Bechstein Digital Grand, but you'll pay $249 for its glory.

Yes I'd second that.

Platinum ships with the "Amber" TP module though there are several others should you wish to upgrade it (at a cost!)

With a bit of EQ tweaking you can get the Amber module to fit well in most productions, as long as it's not an exposed classical/solo piece

Im a huge fan of EZ Keys myself. I know some might say its a cheap sounding synth, but when you Doctor up the sound, its becomes legit. The grand piano is especially a big hit here in the Chuckebaby household.

Here's a back to back comparison of 23 pianos on youtube.

The essence of low and high end keys seem pretty easy to capture. I tend to judge more by the midrange keys as they seem like the hardest to capture, by my ears anyway.

Nice!

I found the MIDI file for the song used in the comparison, Springtime Sundays.  Just google for "SPR_TIME.MID",  or look here:
http://download.midimi.org/midi-100471-download-classical_piano-spr_time.html

It's a good way to demo what you have, or any trial versions that you may download

And here it is being played on a real piano:

It should be noted.. IF you have a registered Focusrite audio interface (or buy one).. you can get the Addictive Keys (and pick whichever you prefer) for FREE. I picked up the Grand Piano for 0$. But you have to own a Focusrite interface. They do a "monthly" plugin deal where you get free plugins every month and this was just added recently.

Just FYI

I was all set to get the Grand freebie when I listened to the Upright and picked that instead. Haven't used it in a project yet, but I liked what I heard in the demo. . . .

That Upright is quite nice, there aren't that many well done regular uprights.
For grands, the only VSTs I've actually really liked and didn't feel like I need to wrestle with were Ivory and KeyScape. Different price bracket though. Addictive Keys is decent if you don't need to use the close/wide mics which have crazy high resonance in the highs.

Is this another player/instrument, like Kontakt? Are there a host of 3rd party instruments that can use it, like Kontalt? If not, the PRO $ seems pretty steep, tho you do get 2 lesser $ choices, unlike Kontakt.

Pianoteq is a piano modeling VST. Comes with 3 grand piano models and you can buy additional acoustic & electric pianos among other instruments. Check it out: Pianoteq.com
I have the Standard version. Takes very little disk space, like 30Mb or so, not too CPU hungry and sounds really, really good.  Check some YouTube videos.

I really like their low notes but could never get along with the midrange for more poppy playing, personally. Definitely worth checking out though and an interesting alternative to huge sample libraries.

FWIW -- TruePianos goes for $120 at the moment. I bought mine so long ago that I don't know whether this is the current normal price or a sale.

And, yeah, it's pretty darn good, IMHO.

I'm a pianist by profession so by definition pretty nitpicky about the "feel" of any digital piano. Pianoteq sounds quite good and I've used it on demos. The bass notes in particular are amazing, that they did that with pure modeling. Much more "alive" than most sample libraries. I just never really got along with the midrange for anything but ballad style or classical playing. I suppose it must be like Fender purists playing a Blade strat (which I do own and love, haha).

Re: Looking for a good clean piano soft synth 2017/02/16 04:06:32 (permalink)
I've got a number of piano libraries, and also the Arturia Piano V modeled piano, but I find that I always end up using EZ-Keys Grand or Upright when sketching out draft piano parts. Somehow it just feels good to me when I play it. It's not the best sound (but I'm not the best player!), but it just seems to sit well with other parts when I need a good all round piano.
I'll often replace it later with a more subtle piano library, but it remains my go-to piano. For the price it's excellent, and if you're not the best piano player it does make it easy to put piano parts together using the inbuilt library of midi phrases. The midi pattern aspect is clever, but feels limited in what it can do if you want complex arrangements.
