Looking for downloadable Reaper videos

I'm loading up my laptop with stuff to entertain myself while lounging beneath the mango trees in the Philippines for three weeks. I've decided to load up Reaper and give it another go. Maybe I'll click with it this time, in an ultra-relaxed environment.

So what I'm looking for today are tutorials (video or otherwise) that I can download onto my laptop for offline viewing. I do have software for capturing YouTube videos, but I'd rather not hassle with that if there's someplace I can simply queue then up for downloading.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I just downloaded reaper last night (just in case). Going to take a look at it again in case I need an alternative DAW.

The groove 3 videos come to mind. They recently had a special for 10 dollars a month use.
Lots of other great videos there too.

    http://www.groove3.com/str/reaper-training-videos/

EDIT: I just looked it up and unfortunately the 10 dollar deal expired January.
Still, it is worth looking into groove3 if you have not already.

Have you checked out the Reaper forum? I think there are several links to videos including reapertutorials.com or some such on the main forum page. HTH

Yup, lots of links to YouTube. But capturing them for offline viewing is a hassle. I was hoping there was someplace with downloadable videos, so that I could queue them up for overnight download.

Ever tried Easy Youtube Video Downloader? I use it often mainly for the Dave Pensado "Inside The Lair" videos. It downloads in several formats including 1080p video mp4 I think. It is a Firefox extension that shows as a button on the Youtube page. I'm assuming you were thinking of a screen capture in real time.

I use a similar product, called NetVideoHunter. It's pretty convenient, just a click to capture a video. But you have to start the video playing first so it can intercept the URL. It looks like that'll have to be how I do this.

I found a bunch of videos on the Cockos Wiki, which contains a link that says "you can download all those videos in Windows Media format for offline viewing". Bingo! Unfortunately, it was a dead link.

So I've decided to do it the slow way and have kicked off a half-dozen YouTube captures. It'll eat my bandwidth all morning, but I'll have something to watch on the plane and under the mango tree.

Enjoy the mangos and if you really learn something from the vids maybe you can recommend the best ones?

I played with Reaper back in the 3.0 days and I upgraded to 4.0.

My plan is sometime this year to record a whole song in Reaper using audio and MIDI to get a feel for the product. As well I plan to do a different song in Studio One Pro 2.5. Same idea.

I am NOT planning on leaving SONAR as my main DAW, I just thought I should learn the other DAWs that I legitimately own.

I used reaper for about 6 months, when X1 first came out, and really liked it except that the mackie control and expander modules lacked the support that I needed and there was no activity going on to improve that area of the support.

I really enjoyed the dual pan pot features that were built in on each track strip and the speed control. Have not tried it since but it may be time to start giving it another look see.

Hope you get the vids you need and I think you will pick right up on it. Pretty sure that Modbod was using it also as he was the one that suggested it to me.
Maybe Dave will chime in here.

    Kind regards,
    Rick

I mess with Reaper a bit from time to time....just enought to goof myself up....but it is a powerful DAW.

I have the Groove 3 Videos which I got them on sale and a few of Kenny's video's from the Reaper Forum.....I know that he has a number of them for free but then your stuck with your vidoe capture dituation. Same with You Tube.....

So in essence, it has all been mentioned before....sorry I could not be any more help but they would be my first choice as well....

So many people really love Reaper that I have to suspect it's just me. Or maybe not. I hated X1, and it wasn't that big a change, so maybe I'm just set in my ways.

In any case, I've got a couple hours of tutorials on disk, Reaper's installed along with SampleTank so I've got some sound sources, and I've got my little AKAI mini keyboard packed.

Now if I can just get lucky and score an exit-row seat on the flight to Tokyo I'll be set.

I wish! I've tried being really nice to the ticket agents. I've tried arriving early, arriving last-minute, but it seems to be the luck of the draw who gets an exit-row seat.

    Hey Bit,

Hope you’re enjoying the best of the islands and being chased by young naked native girls.

Opinion here, no intent to cause tribal fanboy or flame wars amongst other respected forum members. Just an observation, trying to be objective and the like…

Reaper and Sonar in one area…

Handling of vst’s and vsti’s, Sonar suks.

The vst/vsti file management in Sonar is convoluted defective, spread over the hard drive without recourse to any sane library system adjustable by the end point user.

This in spite of years of valid requests by users to get with the program. Meaning here, the ability to chain together more than one synth on a channel and option to organize vst/vsti plugs in a more user friendly way.

Off topic, another reason to pass on the Presonus DAW option. Presonus is strangled as badly as Sonar in this aspect...

Cakewalk company posts give a complex workaround for the defect, but like a patch on an infection not addressing the root cause of the infection.

Wanted to do all my keyboards in Sonar but can’t.

Reaper, click on one synth, series it with another synth, series it with another, etc etc on the same track. Parallel or series route with another click. Adjust relative volumes with another. Done. Beautiful landscapes without having to resort to multiple cloned tracks.

Doing exclusive audio input, except for the defective file management jungle, Sonar and Reaper feel about equal, just more to go through with Sonar before you find the plugin you were looking for.

Have to keep Reaper on board for keyboards where Sonar doesn’t have the capability. Sonar is kept here for midi sheet music and advanced midi editing where Reaper as a lot of catch up to do. I can't seem to work without both programs.

    John

Interesting POV, John. I had no idea that chaining synths was a big deal. In fact, I've never once felt the need to do that. But then, I've only been using synths for 30 years or so :)

"Handling of virtual synths in Sonar is last century primitive..." Curious statement. It was Reaper's clumsy handling of multi-timbral synths that put me off the first time I tried it. SONAR's handling of soft synths is, for me, quite intuitive, elegant and not the least bit restrictive.

"Handling of vst’s and vsti’s, Sonar suks. Major suks big time…Do the math. Sonar suks… No one can defend this with any credibility. " You're right: nobody can refute that logic.

    Hey Guys,

    Sorry for the diatribe...

Got to remind myself not to drink and post and not to post with Firefox.

Been with Sonar since the 90's and I guess frustrated about the vst browser and how vsti's are handled. Hasn't changed that much.

Layering is probably my way to get enhanced sound to compensate for talent so is an important part of my workflow. Sonar makes this quite difficult where it could be made easy and lightning fast.

Maybe a good way to illustrate this is with a video. I'll try to do a YouTube video of the way Reaper handles vst/vsti instruments and a look at the excellent customizable filing system. Will make more sense than me rambling and a good way to compare the two approaches.

    Hope all are well.

That's ridiculous. The answer is 96 kiloHertz. Do the frickin' math.

Coherence is clearly not a prerequisite for audio engineering. Dave Pensado and Alan Parsons are living proof of that.

I don't think you can get better than Groove3's Reaper 4 Explained.

I know that most folks here like to go with their All-Access Pass, but I prefer to buy the individual vids I want (usually when they're on sale)... This allows me to download them and watch at my leisure.

Anyway, the Reaper 4 vid is $40 - kinda steep, I know.  An alternative would be to get the Reaper 3 Explained, which is 10 bucks cheaper, but still close enough to version 4 to learn the basics.

    Friends,

This video thing is knocking me down. Reminder again to me how GoPro and Sony Vegas don't like to work together.

I'm uploading the pure, low quality GoPro video. Nothing being played but an overview of the file management system in Reaper. Covers customizing vst folders and building multi synth chains on a single track. Goes over salvage efforts for lost or quaranteened vst's using the reaper-vstplugins.ini file.

Sound quality is bad since it is the GoPro internal mic. Video is about 13 minutes long. Should be available in a soon at:

    http://youtu.be/7qGmSImqxX8

Want to follow up with some actual sound clips and also a short clip on using Energy XT inside Sonar (and getting dx/dxi plugs to work in Sonar X).

Hope this is worth the time to watch.

    John
