Looking for grainy vocals

Has anybody got any ideas where I might find a plug to add some 'grainy/gritty texture'(clients words) to a vocal track, preferably free. I've tried all the usual suspects, voxengo and classic and the closest I can get to requirement is the cake amp sim but thats to harsh and telephony.

Regards

I would have your "client" point to specific examples so you can listen to them.

You might try this - http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/vinyl/

Don't know if that's what you're looking for, but it's a nice plug to have.

Another suggestion would be to try tracking the vocals through something like a Ibanez tube screamer. You'll have to mess around with the settings but you can get some pretty cool gritty lo-fi sounds.

    Regards,
