Looking for midi drum help SD3 Andy Johns kit editing - 2nd sampler?

Ok I like to use the Andy johns kit in SD3. Problem is that for some reason you can't replace samples in it if you want a different cymbal or something. It loads as a "program" instead of a .kit file. Perhaps this has something to do with it. (I called the maker's tech support and he never heard of a .kit file) (geeez)....So they made a drum kit for SD3 and didn't know what a .kit file was. Anyway.... I am using drum map so i can just port the track I want to another sampler or another SD3 and get to do what I want to do. 1.Should I open another SD3 or is there a sampler that I can load the SFZ file I want to use into? I am looking to use the least memory resources possible and I'm not sure a second SD3 would be the best choice. 2.Is there a way to "freeze" sd3?

Programs are kits+midi loops. I bet you will find kits make from their samples if you look it the kit browser

You can load any of the pads in SD3 with other instrument definitions if you wish. To load an instrument, right-click on the drum, cymbal or pad in the drumkit view or pad in the mixer view. That will allow you to create the drum kit you want, then save the kit (or program if you want to save the midi loops with the kit).

If you need more drums you can always run more than one instance of SD3

That works for all the kits but the andy johns. If I load it as a program (there is no .kit file, I asked) The drum i replace looks loaded but no sound. Any other .kit file load this is no problem.

If they did not supply the kits, can't you save kits from their programs? Did you try unloading an instrument before loading another one? When you replace a drum you are replacing with a like instrument, for example replacing the snare with another snare sfz? The pads are all hardwired for specific midi notes.

Now that I see what is happening I should have posted this in instruments sorry. But Thanks you helped me understand what was wrong, and now I don't know how to fix it. It's not just the AJ kit as I had thought. It's whenever you try to replace a instrument with another unlike type. (crash where ride is) I'm trying to treat it like a sampler thinking the sfz would just drop in. Individual .flac will play just not the sfz "layers" I'm guessing is in the SFZ file possibly? or How do I put a crash where a ride is in SD3?

If you want a crash where a ride would be you need to create a custom sfz. One way would be to copy a crash sfz to another name and replace the note references in the new sfz. Change all note instances of 49 to 51 and 57 to 59. There is no corresponding mapping for the ride bell 53 in the crash sfz so you could leave that undefined or add anything you want to play at note 53.

Thanks That's what I was afraid of. (I knew I should have bought a drum program grrr.) I thought I could make SD3 work for me. I had battery and loved it but it doesn't work with x2. I think I'll try the 2nd instrument approach to add cymbals for now. I have another thread in Instruments asking which is least CPU that will load SFZ files.
