brundlefly ANY reasonable excuse
The majority of the extra revenue from the UK goes to pay for the fireworks display at Cakewalk's annual Independence Day employee picnic, and a small portion covers the costs of translating Noel's "Under the Hood" post to "Beneath the Bonnet". That's good enough for me , I just want to hear it from the Cakewalk financial department...

Did any of you think about the operation in Ireland that distributes the European Sonar's, do you honestly think that is a free service? Could it be that those 20 quid is actually going towards financing that? Hell it is the same as DVD a bag of sweets and a brew or two, for entertainment in front of the telly on a saturday evening. I really can't see the logic in the complaints when you consider what you are getting for your money.

Besides, European distribution is something Cakewalk has established on its own accord, to distribute to its wholesale customers. The premium (if any) should NOT be passed on to prospective download customers.

Karyn I have stated several times exactly what rules are being broken. You know, you really haven't. What particular law? Can you point me to some authoritative source that backs up what you're saying is the question.

PerChr Cakewalk's dollar-euro pricing is complete bullsh.... A lot of US based companies get this right, but not Cakewalk X1Producer upgade from 8.5 Producer shouldn't be more than €79. And.. don't give me the Customs tax and/or VAT argument. At least in Norway that is MY problem, not Cakewalk's. (No Customs tax but 25% VAT) Per P.S As usual I expect this topic to be completely ignored by the Bakers.... Since they distribute through Roland in Europe I guess they don't want to compete with local retailers. So they set the price accordingly. You can order from Cake store, and still local Roland will send you the box and want something for that. More strange was Celemony pricing on latest version of Melodyne. They had like USD 249 and EUR 199 for one version(Assistant). But they equalled to USD 699 and EUR 699 for most expensive version. Cake is at least consistent in how they price stuff.

Well it's 5 pages in and still no official response from CW. I've emailed them over the years about this and I still await a response. Despite everything that the forum members say on here, CW know full well that enough people from the UK and will pay whatever CW ask. Sad, but true.

While I originally thought it was extra costs incurred by your shipping/import laws, it seems now that it's probably based on distribution rights with the people who carry Cake products. Why would anyone stock Sonar on the shelf if they knew that users could order it cheaper from a different company? If Cake is to break into the Euro market, then they need a product on the shelf, and they'll also need the numbers behind the sales to encourage stores to carry the product. It may suck, but only a little bit. We get a Cake product somewhat cheaper, and you get decent health care. Personally, I'd rather switch places.

I was looking at a Sounds Online ad for the recent sale, and it divides the world up the same way. US + everyone else, and then a shop for Europeans.

Twigman Yes that's me who is quite upset by the situation where swiss people are considered as in the EU zone... This is not the case with the german shops that I know, they sell tax free and I pay the swiss taxes when I receive the parcels. Same for East West for example, to give an US example of company who treats europe in a normal way -which cakewalk doesn't, although I don't think they are not very smaller than EW, aren't they?

Yeah, I've decided to pass on X1 for this reason. The price for downloads should be: (USD to EUR/GBP conversion) + EU Member's own VAT rate. Hence, someone in France will be paying a different price from someone in the UK depending on the country's VAT as it is with every other US based company I purchase from... ssebs: Actually, Cakewalk should implement a "Wheel Of Fortune" style price generator. You put your items in the basket and at the end spin the wheel to see what magic random number is added onto the value of your goods. (min. item on the wheel is £30)
