this is whats killed the product imo...I was never going to update at those prices... I think they should everyone gets the latest update so everyone on Platinum (and the other versions) is on parity...

just tried downloading the latest version of Zeta...still works... I dont why you should be able to download your registered products... the question is...can products like Addictive Drums and Breverb transfer to another DAW..I suspect the answer is YES as its only a VST at the end of the DAY... unless there is a ruling that it can only operate within Sonar and only licensed for use in Sonar... the thick plottens!

HAS ANYONE who owes for a monthly Sonar tried to pay over at Cleverbridge yet? I saw elsewhere ( FB Cakewalk User Group ) someone tried .. and its NOT taking payments .. This is just surreal stuff .. the most mismanaged process in business I have ever seen ..

Yeah... Even from Gibson's standpoint... Allowing people to do final upgrades and such could only give them a little more cash.... nothing to lose! I've already heard from other users wanting to upgrade to Platinum to finish off with, but of course we're seeing it's already too late... Maybe something will happen to change things, but s*#t happens.... sadly...

Yes Keni, I have actually never seen anything like this in Business .. and I own my own business for a long time. I cant get my head around it, how a business can treat a loyal longtime customer base in such a callous manner. From Gibson (?) it smacks of pure arrogance Its just incredible.

My experience working in the corporate world for the past 25 years says that this week's events could just as easily be the result of confusion, unclear communication, conflicting interpretations of what needs to be done, poorly constructed processes and decisions made in a rush without proper forethought -- as opposed to deliberate maliciousness or unconcern. None of which would reflect well on Gibson, of course, and the end effect is the same for us end users. But stuff happens. I've seen intelligent, earnest people in large groups make decisions and carry out processes that turned out to be both incoherent and disastrous, despite all attempts to do things right. I have no idea what is going on behind the scenes at Gibson or Cakewalk, but I'm hoping we'll get a better picture when/if any updates come our way from the remaining Cakewalk personnel, or even from other news sources.

The problem is that even if Gibson lets those of us who haven't updated in a while, pay for a final update to get the most up to date final version of Sonar, who knows how long Gibson is going to keep the servers active. I can pay for an update and then not be able to re-authorize my version if I have some kind of a crash or disk failure and have to re-install sonar. It can be tomorrow - it can be a month from now or a year - as long as sonar is using an online auth scenario and not just a pure serial number, then it's really just walking on ice at the moment.

Very true that there is no good long term solution... There is no long term! So anything we can get to postpone the inevitable is appreciated by me as I continue to be unhappy working in any of the other DAWs I know of... I would like it if they simply released one last update that removes the license dating completely so what you have can always be re-installed even if they shut down the servers.... Seems it would remove some obligations for them in the long run too and would go a long way toward preserving customer faith...?
