Loopers and midi sync..

Started talking about looping in t'other thread, so thought would continue in its own.

Anyone interested needs to checkout Mobius... non-glitzy interface, but solid and very comprehensive. I am still trying to get my head around it.. when I can do something polished as a basic tutorial on Sonar + Mobius I will bang it up (well, those of you who have seen my vids know how low I aspire to in video professionalism...lol)

Mobius is configurable, but stock shows effectively 8 independent loopers (which are referred to as tracks), each of which can hold 4 loops (one can play at a time per looper), and each loop is capable of unlimited overdubs. Add undo/redo and plenty of effects and you can see how powerful this can be for live use.. or simply jamming alone or with all your friends or both... lol.

So, for use in Sonar..
a) Mobius VST will show as an effect, you need to configure it as a soft synth so that midi data can pass to it.
b) Make a bus, put Mobius in the fx bin (as a soft synth) and direct your track inputs to that bus for looping.

If you wish to setup midi control of Mobius, for foot controllers etc.. do this in standalone mode. don't ask why..........lol

Anyway, for a quick glimpse, here is what I put together as a maschine getting started guide..

    well,

This is turning out to be a lot of fun.. What started as a project to be able to loop guitar/bass over the top of a sequencer hasn't actually resulted in that yet..lol.
I am having way to much fun adding tracks loops and layers with ext synths and vsts... the number of interesting and hynotic patterns that are emerging are pretty endless.

This is what i have in Sonar.. so far its a basic stereo midi sync looper.

    a) audio tracks for inputs going to a mobius bus, input echo on. In my case I am using 3 tracks, one each for Virus, Nova, and MicroQ. These are all midi sync'd to Sonar.
    b) maschine inserted as a VST for rhythm track to master out, though this could go to looper also..right now am just checking sync with this.
    c) mobius VST inserted into mobius bus fx bin as a VSTi (needs configuring from tempo effect to instrument). mobius bus to master out
    d) using maschine controller as looper control, plus a foot pedal for record, erase, undo and redo.

There are a number of setup items in mobius to take care of, input monitoring, sync and quantise functions but the manual is decent and its a once doing..

What is very interesting is that the comprehensive midi control would allow you to use this as an on the fly arranger..

oh well, back to not earning money!..later

anyone interested... here is a short sonar & Mobius setup guide..

This is a GREAT way to play along with guitar/bass/synth to drum tracks .. particularly if you have some sort of foot controller...  I have only 4 buttons which are set to undo, redo, overdub and rec/erase (long press)... someone with the FCB1010 can go nuts with the effects...

Thanks Mystic, this looks to be a great way to jam.......when I have more time, I'll look into setting this up and follow your tutorial. I'm unable to watch the video as I'm getting some youtube error here at work (the link works fine). When time permits, I may bother you to get more details on the setup......(hopefully with Mikro2)
