Losing Soft Synth Inserts on Project Open

New to this software so it's probably something I'm doing...
 
Every time I open a saved project, all of the synth inserts seem to have disappeared, and the tracks have reverted to general midi tracks... any ideas?

    Hehe, was opening a .mid, adding synths, then saving... as .mid.
