"Lost For You" - Acoustic Pop
Here is another track that I have finished recently. I asked my mate, who has a knack for lyrics, to write me out something and see what we could come up with. This is the result, a lamenting pop track with an acoustic touch. Titled "Lost For You", please take a listen and let me know how it sits with you. Lost For You Cian

Cian, this is my favorite song from you, yet! You put your voice to good use on this number; it's as strong and emotional as I've heard it. The lyrics are very good, as well. There's plenty of breathing room in this, and every element has it's own space. That being said, it was a little left channel heavy on my monitors and VU meters. I also like the tone of the piano in the verse, but not as much on the chorus, however, that is just my ears. The part is terrific. Again, this is a very good song that is a tweak from Nirvana.

Vocal sounds great, especially chorus - piano tone could be better - just lacks a little depth for me.

very very much a gem of a song. you have a great vocal range and hit that falsetto in the chorus w/ amazing power and feeling. impressed. kinda song you want your girlfriend to listen to after a fight. your friend's lyrics are very poetic, almost John Keats-ish with lines like "beauty's brail and sweetest sail, cast into the eye's of the soundless gale" well done on all points, mate. bet not too many folks on this side of the pond know that meaning of 'brail' save nautical folks

I would have like a deep grand piano on this. Nicely done. Nicely sang. A really good song. The bell on the big chorus seemed a little too up front to me, but I like them. Like the piano though I seem to feel like I want them a little brighter. Not much to crit. Nice job. Daryl

The lyrics are really beautiful. Very nice song. Echo the comments on the piano. Around 3:54 when you start the outro, the piano entrance seems a bit off. Maybe check the timing at that spot?

Cian, Great vox. Slight suggestions: - Perhaps introduce other instruments earlier (one by one) to move the song along. It's a little long w/o movement, by today's standards.
- Use another piano patch or don't eq out the bottom of the piano so much. You aren't using a bassline so this will fill in the bottom.
- It screams for a bassline and at least a snare hit or clap with your percussion. Again, this will move it along.
These are just my opinions on what already is a good song. Whether you use some of them or not, well done.

Cian, I just listened to this beautiful song several more times, and I had a thought (as painful as that may be). Regarding the piano, why not use an electric piano? A Rhodes or Wurlitzer sample would work, just with a different flavor. Regardless, this is real gem.

Wow, a lot of interest and feedback on this track. When my friend writes lyrics, it allows me to concentrate on the ttack as a whole rather than stopping and starting when trying to squeeze it in and overall usually yields a more complete track. A lot of interesting comments; Seems to be a strong emphasis on the piano sound (Lynn, paulo, daryl etc), as far as Im aware I think I went for a upright piano sample and high pass filtered it a little more on the choruses (since a lower cello line was used). When people mean depth are they talking about more bass and fuller sound, maybe more reverb. Lynn, interesting comment, like ditch the piano sound all together and use an electric based sound?mmmm, thats an idea.... Makke, Darren & Robby, thanks a lot. vechung, thanks. I think the piano is on time but suffice to say, since I did spot this myself, that an extra bar or two is needed before the piano outro (holding on to the chord for longer after the last chorus), I would add that in yes. Reginald, I paying particular ears to your comments, since I've listened to your stuff and you have a nice touch with this genre. Regarding bassline, I actually had one in but didnt really like it. This song didnt really have a beat as such at the start but as I kept recording and mixing a natural groove eventually came out, so yes I agree a strong snare clap on the percussion/chorus and a bassline may help this stand out big time (slick website I may add too). Really chuffed with that comment Warren, I really want to be able to create a hit, getting closer but still not there unfort. Think I need help in order to fully achieve that. I think overall, the vox are good on this which seems to be the verdict. Is there any part of the song that people think could be changed, or that didnt help the song/wasnt needed/not bothered with? Thanks all, Cian

No problem man. Again, it's already a good song even if you left it as is. It was just my 2 cents. Thanks for checking out my site. I appreciate the comment. Also, nice Usher cover. Very well done!

Well, it's not really "uplifting?" (that was tongue in cheek) but it was good... Very little of what I do is uplifting... If there is reincarnation? I want to come back as a push up bra? So I can spend at least part of my existence being "uplifting..." Or maybe Kate Beckinsale's bicycle seat... That wouldn't be bad either.

Reginald, thanks again. Seem to find hard to get a little time of late but I would certainly have a crack at your suggestions none the less. Robby, it did puzzle me slightly, I should have known you were messing. I too have a natural tendency to write melancholic tunes, family kind of get on to me a little though so Im trying to keep more of em on the radio pop side if I can. pushup bra could do with one myself have excercised in a couple of months! Thanks all, Cian

Cian, I just listened to this again several more times, and I like it better every time I hear it. I no longer hear the imbalance that I wrote about, and I like the piano better and better. But, I really just wanted to give you a bump because your vocal performance needs to be heard by more people. Plus, I don't want to have to chase this down to listen to it, so I'm just doing this for myself because I'm lazy.

You've got such a great voice and I love the chords and melody....nice harmonies too. I imagine you'll guess that I'm not a fan of the piano sound either, but I love the playing. :) I might have orchestrated it a little earlier too, but it's definitely a great song. I hear what Robby's saying about that piano chord at 3:55...it seems just a tad too late. Overall I love it!

Lynn, thanks you so much for your kind comments. I guess my vocals are my strongest point so thanks for promoting me. Id doubt your any lazier than me! Janet, the piano women, thanks for verifying some of the previous comments and glad you got a kick out of it. I might try to redo this at a later stage with some more instrumentation but mainly with a beat throughout. Cian

Hauntingly beautiful and heartfelt song... the vocal could not have been better... Love your falsetto here... I like your piano, but I also like the idea of an Rhodes too... well done Cian...

Hi Cian, Man, what a beautiful song. Great melody lines and an incredible vocal performance. I'm sort of in the 'love the piano part/playing but not the tone' camp I'm afraid but with a song this good it doesn't really matter...I'll be back to listen again.

Hi, Cian, Wow, this is truly fantastic! Your friend did a great job on the lyrics, and your vocals and harmonies are absolutely spectacular in every way. Excellent playing and arrangement and you've got a very clean, pro sounding mix. I actually like the sound of the piano on this, and of course piano tones are always subjective choices just like guitar tones can differ greatly in specific styles and genres of songs. Amazing work, Cian, top-notch performance and production, my friend! Bob

Cian - not sure how I missed this one. Great vocal performance. I really like the simplicity of this arrangement but think it would also work as an all out 4 on the floor dance song
