Lost

I bought sonar platinum on a whim and have yet to use it. I really just want to record guitar and vocals, build some beats or drums around it. Where should I turn? Should I get music creator? Anyone will to do some web training on sonar platinum? I'll pay

Platinum is a much complete product compared to Music Creator, although Music Creator will do what you intended too. But since you're bought Platinum, just learn to use it first.

Perhaps you might be interested first at recording some audio :

Also, check your interface setting with the "Audio Configuration" and "Midi Devices Setup" video.

    EDIT :
Go directly to Cakewalk's Youtube channel directly, search for "Cakewalk Session Drummer". It's a much easier beat making instrument that is installed with Platinum to get started. Used to be included in the CakeTV, probably removed, giving way for much newer Addictive Drums.

I can't imagine having the top of the line and buying something that far down the chain. Just go with it, soon you'll be glad to did. I imagine you're just a bit overwhelmed with it right now.

Learn only what you need to learn, when you need to learn it. The online help is good for that.

Platinum is a top of the line, sophisticated product. Learning it is no different from walking into a studio back in the day and expecting to be a recording engineer. The good news is that the slowest going is always at the beginning. Take one thing at a time - learn how to record, then learn how to drag in drum loops from the browser.

Think of it this way: Suppose you bought a musical instrument. How long does it take you to get good at playing it? A long time...but you can start having fun once you get past the basics. If SONAR was a guitar, you'd be in the "my fingers hurt, and how do you tune this darn thing?!?" stage.

The first 3 books in "The Musician's Guide to Home Recording" series are available from Hal Leonard and http://www.reverb.com. Listen to my music on http://www.YouTube.com/thecraiganderton, and visit http://www.craiganderton.com. Thanks!
