Lost presets

I've had to reinstall and run all the updates to 8.5.3 and when I opened the Sonitus Reverb and EQ, there were no presets there. How do I get them back? I don't mean the ones I created, I mean the ones that are included with the installation.

Thanks - rev

I didn't even know those came with presets!

Just checked, and they're stored in INI files:
        \program files\cakewalk\shared plugins\FXReverbDX.ini
        \program files\cakewalk\shared plugins\FXEqualizerDX.ini

Check if those files are present.

    Thanks a lot dude!

I searched for the presets by name with Search Everything but that utility doesn't look inside files, so if it isn't the filename it won't be found.

This experience (replacing the C: drive) has taught me to back up all my presets, I usually don't bother but it's well worth it. Thanks!

Don't know why the install didn't create the stock presets automatically, but I'd be happy to email them to you if you like. They're just small text files.

I found them exactly where you said they are and the definitions are inside the .ini files - what now though? Are they in the wrong place or should they be duped and a copy moved to somewhere? The Shared Plugs dir should be seen by 8.5.3 right?

The ini files are the basis for the registry entries used by the plug-ins. The Sonitus plug-ins read/write presets to the registry. I do not know why the registry entries were not created during the install process. Maybe the installation was not run as administrator.

Good point, though that seems a strange thing to omit just because you're not the Admin dude. Presets don't constitute a security issue and normal users are people too :)

It's probably not worth chasing but the presets were good starting points for all the others I created (and lost) I'll just have to look up all the best settings for this and that and back them up once I've recreated them.

I've got 8.5.3 on top of 8.0 - do you think I could invoke 8.0, discover them there and then copy them? I'll have to give it a try.

All versions of SONAR share the Sonitus plug-ins. It appears the registry entries for the presets are missing.

Yeah, too much trouble to chase. Thanks, I'll watch that carefully next time :)
