Lots of "crackling" during Play

I oftentimes experience a lot of crackling when playing through any musical creation I'm working on in Sonar (all versions I've used, incl 8.5 & X1).

I'm using 64bit Win 7, 8GB RAM, 2.27Ghz Intel, Tascam US122 with ASIO.

I recently upgraded from 3GB to 8GB RAM hoping that the crackling would disappear, but it didn't. Fewer audio dropouts, however.

I think this is the CPUs fault - it's not strong enough? The bar graph never really gets about 70%-80%.

I noticed that the crackling occurs MOST when I have 6 or more plugins available, especially addictive drums and amplitube.

some people have been able to have better results when "aero" is turned off in win7. I had to do this in vista and then there were no issue.

Of course there is the old buffer issue. For some the buffer needs to run higher. Not a sexy idea as we don't want to add latency but just thought I'd bring it up.
