Lover's Touch..Remixed and Deglazed

I have been digging out mixes that i discarded because of too many nightmares.  With all I've gleaned from the many impeccable ears here and the generous tips of the tried and true i've tried REMIXING a few of my favorite projects.

I've always loved my wife's vocals on this and we used to sing this in coffee houses and small pubs years ago.

I hope you enjoy....and please let me know if something can be honed on the mix.

Thank you!

I like the gospel and the rythmic feel in this. Nice melody, great transition in "do you know.."  Lovely vocal and choir(!) Some of the blue piano notes seemed a bit odd at first. But after a couple listenings they passed ok. Great tune!

Sure sounds good to me.  I love your confident piano playing once again.  But everything sounds good.  Nice and clear.  Great vocals too...she's got a nice voice.  :)  Glad you found time to get back in the saddle again.  :)

    Hi Rick,
I love the laid back feel to this number.  Terrific job on this number.  I was also taken aback at first at hearing some of those dissonant piano notes but upon listing a few more time they were the perfect fit.  How clever!  Your wife vocals sounded very good and fit right in with the feel of the song.
    Very nice indeed.

Equality...............Hello and thank you for taking time to have a listen.  I'm glad the piano solo worked.  I've been playing it that way for many years and i have a hard time shifting gears.

Frank..................Thank you, sir, for the listen and comments

Janet..................I'm super glad you dig the piano playing.  It's heavily influenced by my Mom.  She used to play a lot with that kind of feel.
    Thank you.

Freddy.................Hello to you and thanks so much for coming by to listen and comment!

Radio..................It's always nice to oil the fingers and bang some old chords out.  Cleans out the melancholy.
Thank you for the listen and kind comments.

That is so funny! She's a female you!

You have an audible click in one of your edits at 1:30.

Again at 1:57 (less prominent) and 2:12.

A lot of vocal tracks here. It has kind of a lazy drunken feel to it that is pretty cool :-)

Cool song and groove! Your wife sounds great...

Rick, I'm with Rockin' Rob on this. Your bride is a female you as a singer- the phrasing and intonation is dead on.

Cool tune and arrangement.  The piano break stumbles along in a semi-tonal way- I imagine it would take raw animal courage to play it like that live.

    Massively cool, overall.

Robby..........She probably sounds like me because she's listening to my dummy vocal in the headphone while singing...Yeah, she's listening to the dummy.  Thanks for the listen.

Gary.............Thank you for the piano compliment.  I actually played it without midi cheating.  I'll tell the Mrs you liked!

Scotty.............It's amazing how you can carry your laptop while jetskiing.  You're incredible!

Hi Alan...........Thank you for the compliments on the little lady.   She will be very happy as she's hard on her singing.

Bert................so glad to see you roun' these parts!!!
Not sure why i stuck with the frenchy piano solo except maybe there was Debussy on the cd all day or i was busy with lots of Bordeaux.  Either way, i've locked into that part and wouldn't know the song without it.
Thank you for your ears and comments!

Dan....................I'm very happy you got to hear it.  Thank you for popping in and commenting!

James.................I take it the mix needs work...While remixing this i spent most of my time aligning the guitars and bass.  It was way wacked out.   Mostly i wanted to keep this version for it's 'photographic' or sound snapshot of a time in our life value.  Thanks for having a listen.

Is that really Mrs No How or is it actually Mr No How with some kind of gender altering pitch shift plug in ? Or maybe you've just been sucking on some helium balloons ? The vocals really are uncannily like you, so if it really is the Mrs, then I guess I've just insulted her, because you're always saying that she thinks you sound bad. Sorry Mrs NH. If it's any consolation, we in these parts kind of enjoy listening to your Hubby, so all is good.

This has such a wacky theatrical feel to it. I love the turn-arounds – the subtle chord/key changes as you transition between sections – the end of one phrase is the start of the next – very slick. At 1:45 the piano steps off the curb into the traffic but jumps back inline – very interesting. The vocals are a riot – raw, with a humorous element and they pick up on the nuances of the piano. I think it is terrific – it sounds like an opening act for Tom Waits.

RickNoHow and WIFEY!!  Cool, and recognizeable as your tune.  If I would have heard this without knowing it was you I would have said "that's a Gents tune, with a female vocalist".  It is all good here, Rick, and well worth digging out of the archives.  I hope there are many more!

I absolutely love the sparkling lead singer on this (that has your excellent vibe and is a spitting image of your vox), I'm such a sucker for sweet alto bliss-songs where the vox leads everything ... your haunting piano compliments her sweetly and succinctly.

Mix is airy as well and sends me soaring!

I like this a lot.. the piano tone (sample?) is just awesome.... the feel, the groove, everything about the song is really nice.

    nits:

I heard a few timing issues at the beginning...with drums.

There were a number of what sounded like string squeaks in this. Some subtle string noises  IMHO are OK, because they add to the intimacy and reality of the song, but quite a few of these were way too obvious. Surgical envelopes or "Process>Audio>Mute" them out.

The singing was a bit off tune in places, although it could be argued that the pitchy places contribute to the advant-guard feel of the song, I would argue that by fixing the pitchy places you will not loose the cool feel to this, it will simply make it better.

All in all I think this is a very cool song. Good job.

Hi Warren...............Thank you for the listen and kind words!!!

Hello Philip..............I'm super glad you liked this...especially the mix.  I reworked it millions of times.  Still more to do but i'm glad i'm on the right track with it.
Thank you for the supportive ears!

Hi Herb.....................What a great post.  Lots of good stuff to chew on here.  The piano is "True Piano" demo version that ran out.
I only have a freebie voice corrector but will try it out as i agree...some of those pitchy spots are too much...as are the guitar issues.
Thank you for the listen and pointed help!

Hi Phil........It was like pulling teeth.  I literally have to drag her out of bed with exotic promises (fortunately she's too tired to remember the details) and good behaviour.
She stands here in her night robe with my telling her to do it again...and again...She's definately holding her end of the bargain up.  Thank you for listening and commenting my friend.

    NOTES:
I just stripped off the finishing glaze (so called mastering) of extra comp, eq and limiting to let the dynamic hold out.  I also took out the clicks per Robby and enveloped out about 25 guitar string slides and melodyned her lead vocal per Herb.  Thank you all for your honest ears and kind feedback.
It's not a big production number and the intimacy is most important.
I like it better although it's not as even keel.
