Lovin' my new Lynx
I wasn't sure I'd be able to tell the difference between my old Delta 66 and my new Lynx L22 audio card but a difference there is!! The sound is more clear, the stereo seperation is more defined, and the drivers are rock solid with Sonar!! So far the only downside for me is the mixer software has a dull GUI, but once it's set who cares !! It's still early yet and it still hasn't been put through all it's paces so I'll tell you guys and gals more in the future when I've completed a song with it.

Indeed. Lynx rocks. The CS is awesome, and the gear is also worth the price.

+1 Congrats on the purchase. Been more than satisfied with my L22 for 2 years now - a marked audible improvement over my 24i. Yes, the mixer GUI could be improved but functionally useable.

twisted6s, Shhhh... be quiet! You're going to give away our secret weapon when it comes to mixes. Glad you're enjoying it. It is like you said, the GUI for mixer may not be great, but other than the first time I set it up I've had no need to look at the mixer again. Hope it continues to work great for you. Tom

Glad you went with Lynx... seemed like a perfect fit for your needs, and I don't think you can get better quality sound/drivers/support for the money. Lynx and RME (sometimes recent MOTU units) are the ONLY interfaces I recommend to my DAW clients for quite some time now -- and all are more than satisfied with the performance/reliability of those products. Go make some music!

I went from Delta 1010 to the Lynx Aurora w/ AES16. Made life a lot easier, not only the upgrade in clock/coversion but also the mixer makes routing in my setup a ton easier. And getting ahold of Lynx is a LOT easier than M-Audio. And the breakout box is the Aurora if you want the 8-16 channel stuff.

Actually there is no breakout "box" just 2 port jacks that plug directly into the pci card that have cables (XLR) for the anolog and digital I/Os. I would describe the "sonic" difference as more clear and 3 dimensional. The Delta 66 was not a bad card so the difference is not like night and day but the difference is there.

Excellent! I've been sold on my LynxTWO-A for a couple of years. Only way to go from here is if I get rich and get the new Orpheus from Prism Sound. Or does anyone know if the Aroura is a step up from the LynxTWO? I am certain the crystal clear and rich guitar sounds I'm getting come from recording through the LynxTWO. Of course a decent mic and guitar are critical too.

That means that the projects that you have done "before", now you can hear better, therefore and hopefully, will help you mix better, right? sincerely

However, I don't think you would hear the big difference between the LynxTWO and the Aroura, should be too close to tell. The big jump is going from a lesser card to a Lynx. If I ever needed a reason to blow money it might be fun to try a Benchmark D/A just to compare, plus it has a nice headphone amp in it. I kinds wish they made a small Aroura... like a 2 in, 2out model. They could call it the Lynx Kitten Oh ! and a version of the Kitten with USB to compete directly with the Benchmark DAC1 USB... not that would be cool... Lynx quality on a laptop... woo hoo !

I always looked at the Lynx and thought that was a lot of money for a card and a cable. No breakout box, no pre-amp. Wow must be really good to command that price. JR

JR It really is that good. I wasted a lot of money on other cards (about the price of the Lynx) before I decided to just get the best and be done with it. So I spent twice as much as if I had just go the Lynx to start with. Thanks to e-bay I did get some of that back. It's still the best sounding internal sound card you buy at any price, even after all these years. It's not only the best sounding sound card I've ever heard, it's the best sounding recording device (of any kind) I've ever heard. Some notes (Cons). The software mixer really is ugly but functional. You will see the meters move (noise) on any input that has nothing plugged into it. If you have a preamp attached (even if it's turned off) the noise is gone and get dead silence. So you want to use the software mixer to mute any un-used inputs. Also, the XLR plugs on the end of the cable are the cheapest ones ever made !! Not what you would expect from such an expensive device but hey... I'm handy with a soldering iron so I installed my own gold tipped ones. It would be cool if Mogami made a custom upgrade harness for those cards. And... it's a card... you can't use it with a laptop. To get Lynx quality on a laptop you have to buy the mega buck Aroura external converter AND the firewire adapter card.

JR Oh, one more thing. I would expect a person that would demand that kind of quality is likely to have some nice preamps and doesn't want to have to pay any extra for the card because it has some. Lynx is not in the preamp making business. One dream product would be the USB 2 dual channel Aroura I wish they made and maybe a version with two Grace brand preamps built in... wow. Yes, it would cost a lot but would be very handy for laptop users doing location recording.

I have the Aurora, and I love it. Like Frank said I wish they would improve the mixer app. Some of the controls are really small and hard to grab and move accurately with the mouse, the GUI is clunky and not intuitive. They need to get some real software designers to work on it, it would make a big difference. John

I run SCA (Seventh Circle Audio) pres into my Aurora16 into an AES16e... They sound awesome. I just switched my system from XP 32bit to Vista 64bit. The Lynx drivers seem to be working wonderfully. And they great thing is that when you call their tech support, Paul is almost always there ready to help you. Incredible customer service.

That way any preamp maker that wanted to could make a Lynx Kitten compatible card. I picked Grace because that's what I used with mine back when I was recording more. At one time I even had the #$%&*! expensive Grace m902 headphone amp and a Grace 101 preamp attached to mine. Really sweet rig. I sold all my Grace gear a few years ago and now I have to use a little SoundCraft Compact 4 mixer... dude.... it hurts to downgrade. But I kept the Lynx Two A card, I'll always have one of those.
