Low volume rmx parts!

Hello,

If i enter a remix contest and i download the parts, then the parts a very low in volume.

Why is this?

And if i just boost the volumeof the parts, is this bad for the sound quality?

Sorry for my bad english

Thx

Milano - Your English is fine.

If you are importing audio that are low in volume, boosting it will only sound bad if there is a high noise floor. In other words, you can judge if the audio is too noisy after you boost it.

You didn't say what kind of music you are remixing. If your remixing techno, the noise may be less of an issue by the time you're finished with mixing and mastering. But if you doing Nu-Jazz, or a quiet trip-hop song, then it might be more difficult to work with noisy samples. And even then, there might be some remedies.

I recommend that you just give it a shot, and see how it works out.

Funny, I would have thought it'd be the other way around - noise would be a bigger problem with techno (which needs synth sounds to be pure and clear), but not so much of a problem with jazz or trip-hop (where background noise is part of the vibe).

Good thing this is art, not science!

Well Kim, it very well could be the other way around. We don't know anything about what kind of samples he was getting for his remix.

Milano - Maybe you can get back to us about some details of the remix contest. It sounds interesting. The last remix I tried was "Battle without Honor or Humanity" from Kill Bill. The individual parts were provided on a Computer Music Magazine DVD. It was cool hearing some of the guitar noises and scrapes in isolation, and I learned some things from it.

    Well, it's techno/house.

I want to remix Tiefschwarz - Yeah (aiff). These parts a really low in volume. Maybe you can download the parts, you just have to register.
So you can see/hear for yourself.

    Thanks
