Lower volume on all
When I select all, click 'cntrl/lower volume' from 0 to inf on a track, not all tracks are affected. Everything is post fader. I should hear nothing right? Most noticeable with folders collapsed. Is this a bug? thx

IIRC it depends - if the track you choose to control click on is already at a lower volume than other tracks you will still here the louder ones, albeit at a reduced volume. If you control click on the loudest track and reduce it to infinity you should not hear anything as all tracks will be silenced.

Yep, if all of your faders are roughly in the middle of their travel, they will all increase or decrease proportionally if you cntrl + drag any of them up down. But to get them all to -INF you need to start by using the one with the highest value as a sort of "base" and lower this one. So no, it's not a bug :)

Possible your hearing an FX in a bus ?
Or a send level from a bus ? Sorry misunderstood the question. Jonsey is correct, grab the highest level fader and drop it. this will zero everything to rock bottom.

I guess I wasn't clear. Sorry. Some folders are collapsed. There are no tracks louder than 0db. I select all tracks. (cntrl/A). I use a track with a volume slider reading of 0. I control/click on the volume slider of the aforementioned track and bring it down to inf. I still hear stuff.

Well you need to analyse what you're hearing and where it's coming from. Do you have any Pre Fader sends going into your Fx busses? That would cause sound to continue, even with all track faders at -INF Check all of your meters - Tracks & Busses - this will give you a massive clue.

Just did a quick test - you are quite right. Control/Click on track volume, pan or gain sliders for quick grouping does not work with collapsed folders, even though the tracks are highlighted as selected when the folder is expanded.

It's been that way with me, too. I just open all folders then select all and change the volumes.

What happens when you do it in Console View?

Thanks for your diligence and comprehending Bruce. The reason for this excercise was to see if it actually works so I could use the feature. No, it doesn't work. I expanded all folders, muted effects buss, bounced a mix (80 or so tracks) muted the bounced mix brought level down 8db on all tracks bounced a mix lowered volume of first mix 8db and inverted phase of first mix played the 2 mixes together. doesn't null. Not even close. Also, I shouldn't have to mute the effects buss as all sends are post-fader. It's 1's and 0's after all. (edited per Bristol) If you get a chance Bruce, it would be great if you could confirm. Thanks

If all sends are Pre-Fader then you are doing nowt to reduce the volume going into the bus. Your Fx should be running Post-Fader if you want all volumes to drop when you lower the fader It's 1's & 0's after all..................

I will give it a try in the studio Tomorrow Tim. Just a thought though; I am not entirely sure that it should null. I could be wrong, but I think unless all tracks start out with their faders at 0 before any grouping volume reductions the mixes of the two files will be different. Using the control/click grouping, you are reducing each individual track by 8db, thus changing the ratios between them unless the faders were equal to begin with. By bouncing the track first and then reducing the entire mix by 8db, you are changing the level of the overall mix, but not the ratio between individual tracks.
