I think it is now Friday in new zealand

ALAS .. only Wednesday here in Portland/Vancouver and we're buried in snow. I think the Portland area has stated chains or snow tires only, meaning that 90% of all business and anything else will likely be closed ... we got way more than 3 inches of snow all over ... my backyard is all white and it was BRIGHT all night long!

My lad is currently playing Overwatch at max settings using an MSI rx 480 8gb card and he says it is great and I managed to bag one for 200 squids, if you can't afford true high end graphics, this is worth a punt

GTX 970 is OK on my computer ... still not as good as it should be, and the computer can easily handle twice that. But, no, I'm not adding another to dual them!

So Mesh, if I were to upgrade my computer to handle the newest games (4k), what's the current CPU and motherboard to get?  I already know that an Nvidia 1080 is the video card to get (if I can ever afford one!).

To be honest, I haven't really been following much on the latest hardware that's coming out. However, for gaming, the GPU is very important......that NVidia 1080 (Ti?) looks very nice.

Are you only upgrading the MB & CPU? What other internal hardware do you have?

If you buy a 'K' CPU (6600k or 6700k) and want to overclock or run multiple video cards (SLI or Crossfire), get a Z170 chipset motherboard.
If you aren't going to overclock or aren't running multiple video cards, get a H170 chipset motherboard.
Outside of the overclocking capability and SLI or Crossfire support, the Z170 and H170 chipset features are very similar.
Check the sale prices and if a Z170 is cheaper than the H170, go for the Z170 chipset (even if you're not planning on OC'ing).

I really like ASRock MB's.....you get a dependable/quality build with high end features, and for much cheaper. Check out the ASRock Z170 Extreme 3.

I'd generally expect the PC to last at least 4-6 years (my current build is going on 4 years now.....smooth as ever), so try and get the best quality components that you can afford. Just make sure all your components are compatible.

What about an Intel Core i7-5820K on a X99 MB?
