I'm going to copy those instructions to the top of the thread, I think (with one minor correction, you mention the [machine] section of the INF file, when it's really called [manufacturer]).

Thanks to MackTheKnight the help and dustriplin for reposting not only the instructions but also giving us an update on your success! I do have one question as I too have attempted the file change but after I had installed Windows 10 and it worked for a bit but then stopped working.i am assuming I may have something wrong so i am going to attempt it again. but my question here is does it matter whether I have already updated to Windows 10 or not?

So John T you installed the driver after you updated to windows 10? and this is for the VS-700C?

Yes. The steps are exactly as I've copied into the first post. The driver installation comes after the upgrade to Win10.

Ha , I got my A-Pro 800 USB driver installed in win 10 with this INF hack to the apro_w81d_v102 .

Yeah, I expect this applies equally well to any of Roland's stuff that they've not updated themselves.

John T!  Thrilled that you got your rig transferred over... you were the reason we got into this in the first place! :)
 
The fix worked with just the 700C driver, but the fix didn't work on my Roland Fantom XR driver (rack version of the Fantom X)... but, still working on it.

I love it when a plan comes together.
 

So, I have the noobiest of the noobie equipment, the VS-20, and I was wondering if you guys think I can follow these steps to get this one to work. I'm willing to test it myself, obviously, I'm just not quite as familiar with editing driver files as some of you guys, so I don't know if the values I'm changing are the same. Also, do I have to roll back to 8.1 and install first, or can  I just edit the RDIF1106 file in the 64bit/files folder within the driver directory and then use the x64 installer?

No rolling back, but you do want to uninstall the current driver if it's there but not working.
 
My steps, coming from Windows 7 were:
1/ uninstall driver
2/ upgrade to w10
3/ install driver as described at start of thread.
