Shirley this is overkill?

OK let's hear the other side of the argument then. Go for it...

The other side is pretty simple -  though it's just another opinion.  Everything doesn't need to be an argument.  The early release is exactly the same as the final release we get now -  just a week earlier for those that choose to adopt. Nothing is changing except,  as the bakers have explained,  rather than sitting on the release for a week they are making it available.  What's with all the fuss. It is no different to how people choose to do it now.  Some jump right in on the day of release while the more cautious amongst us wait until the dust settles.

To clarify nobody will get the early release by "accident". IOW command center won't deliver this build by default and it won't go out in a newsletter or anything.
You have to roll forward" to get the early release by right clicking on SONAR in command center and choosing explicitly to download this build. We'd like to keep this process simple and not over engineer it.

Will there be any way to download it for those that don't use CCC Noel?

Not sure about that. In the first cut it will likely be C3 only. Its possible however.

I think you misinterpret. There are multiple definitions of the word argument, obviously I mean 2 and not 1 as below.

1 an exchange of diverging or opposite views, typically a heated or angry one.
"I've had an argument with my father"
2. a reason or set of reasons given in support of an idea, action

I don't see anybody at all here having an argument about it whatsoever or getting heated about it

....too many people aren't going to be able to resist installing.......we'll have exactlly the situation as we currently have.......(b) release a preview only to a select few who are free to openly discuss their experiences.....

^ I see it as above; Obviously there is some intent from CW, the question is what is the real reason behind?...CW's reasoning on this does not seem 100% transparent to me ~> If it really were to just make the release available one week earlier...then why don't they just make the release available one week earlier?!

If the idea is to have some kind of pre-release feedback from users then they shouldn't state that there aren't going to be (hardly) any changes to the code because then the whole idea doesn't (really) make sense anymore. However if they do plan on doing code changes then as PaulP suggests there should only be a select group of people participating else there will again be a 50% for and 50% against situation (from the whole community/user base perspective)....

A minute percentage of Sonar users frequent this forum.

As this "pre-release" version will only be announced on the forum, it stands to reason that it will be a relatively small number of users that will download it.

Fair enough -  good to know.  I read the 'go for it' as a tad combative.
