Thank you BandLab :) Everything installed smoothly here. It would be nice to have some install directory options etc

At first glance, everyone should rejoice. But let's look carefully.
1. The new program in fact breaks compatibility with previous versions.
2. There is a legal problem that I immediately see. The company is reasonably accused of dumping and unfair competition and, as a consequence, will go bankrupt.
3. If you do not even go bankrupt, there will be no normally working support.
Hence the question: which young child took this decision?

Very good thoughts here.
This implies that there is a possibility that my current version of SPLAT might someday not be able to be installed on a new PC.

Is that how you see it?

Thank you!

Google, Windows 10, and Facebook are free. Get the picture?
Cakewalk users are not users anymore, they are now a product.

Windows is not free. Android and iOS are free. (iOS you might be able to argue otherwise but all updates are certainly free. Whether you 'pay' for the first version installed on you mobile device is debatable.) What OS do you have on your phone???

I still use windows phone :) :) :) Have an android crap thing too, I don't like it.

But to be serious - I wouldt compare Bandlab to YouTube. That means, they need content. Why not give users a great tool to create? The outstanding feature of Bandlab is to collaborate. I think, some users will be overchallenged with this new approach.

Cheers :)

I upgraded from Sonar Professional and opened a few existing projects and all played flawlessly. I then proceeded to master within a mix and when it came time to export to 16bit wav, I noticed there was no Pow-r Dithering. Oh well, I hope it can be a paid add-on sometime in the future.

Ouch! This one hurts. I find the powr algo preferable. I guess I'll be doing my file exports from Sonar.

I think this issue needs some attention as I don't know of any way to add alternative dithering to Cake...

I for one will not be installing Cakewalk by BandLab. It may be the New Yorker in me but none of this seems right. Meng comes across way too upbeat and positive. The sales pitch is way too hard. I hope I'm wrong and I hope no one gets burned in the process. The folks on this forum are a good bunch of people. I wish everyone the best!

Right after the Gibson/Cakewalk debacle, I tried Studio One and so far, it's been a good experience. I'll keep Sonar Platinum installed so I can move stems and Midi tracks over to Studio One if needed.

I still drop in from time to time though to read up on what's going on. This is definitely a fun forum! The PreSonus forum is very technical. No horsing around over there!
It's terrible isn't it? Somebody being upbeat and positive........I'd much rather the new proprietor was a miserable uninspiring dullard..........

When I rebooted this morning (new iLok drivers) Bandlab Assistant opened up (despite the fact I'd rather it didn't) and brought up this awesomely bad dialog.

Would it be too much to ask that software that asks to make changes to my computer identify itself in the title bar and ideally message text?  I hate having to guess what software is telling me a new update is available.

Wow, an "anonymous update" to your system!?!  This is a very poor practice, please change ASAP !!!

Otherwise, I greatly appreciate what Bandlab seems to be doing to save Cakewalk.    Thanks

This is a very good point.  Please put in the title bar that this is for Bandlab rather than just saying Updates.  The first time I saw it, I had no idea what it was for either.

Hi team,

All worked flawlessly, well done to Bandlab!
Personally I'm very happy we got rid of the bloatware, which has always annoyed me about Sonar.
I know that the Command Center tried to help with this but I still felt like too much content was thrown at us.
I want a slick easy to use straightforward DAW, that is it.
However, my entire software is no English, would love to be able to change it back to German.

Can anybody help me with this?

Waiting to see how much the NEXT update will cost when it comes out... and if this version will stop working when it does.

Meh... maybe not. I've moved on.

Also, why would you even want to install this when you already have the latest SPLAT if there is no new content, LESS content even? Were there bug fixes?

Thanks for stopping by.

The NEXT update won't cost a thing from http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3745236

Platform and future product updates will continue to be free, just like BandLab - innovation must push forward!

But don't expect Rapture Pro for example to be free when it is re-released :-) (except for those that have bought it before in some way or form and have already created a BandLab account)

Yes, there were updates in this release mentioned in the OP.

Bye for now.

OK well thanks for the reply and the pointer to the post but if that is going to be the model... free tools for the users of BandLab's main offering... well where's the incentive to make this the best DAW on the market beyond the point Meng sells-out or launches the new model?

As far as I can tell, BandLab is going with the Facebook/YouTube model... make it all free-and-clear and then when the user base is big enough and hooked enough, sell advertisements, sell product advancements (ranked higher on searches, guaranteed hits in "random" playlists, etc.), user "subscriptions" that allow bypassing ads, sell mined profile data/targeted ads and then launch a big IPO or hope some larger company buys it out.

If and when that doesn't all work out? Well Cakewalk is once again kaput and the users are desperately hoping someone else will bail the product out yet again.

If I were using Cakewalk to make a living (I'm not) then I would give up for good and go with something in which you have at least reasonable security that it will be around for a while.

Localization is coming later. For now it's English-only. Hab Geduld.
