Every so often I like to get some raw tracks I've never heard before (this was not a client, but I pretended like it was) to see what I can do in a relatively short amount of time.

This mix was done in two sessions. Less than two hours for the first pass and then about 15 minutes on some tweaks.

For the tech geeks:

I mixed this in Mixbus 32C. I used very little FXs on the drums. Did a Send to Waves Abbey Road Plate. I did use Waves CLA Unplugged on the acoustic guitars. I did some minor 32C EQ on the bass DI channel. Nothing much on the electric guitars, amped bass, smash loop or Rise except maybe some automation.

I bused the guitars.

I bused the two lead vox and put MAAG EQ and Waves Greg Wells Voice Centric followed by the EIOSIS De-Esser.

I bused the BGVs and put MAAG EQ and Waves Greg Wells Voice Centric.

Most of the mojo I felt I got came directly from Mixbus 32C.

Great job Ed. It has good balance all around, is punchy, and the low end if right on.
You are really on a roll. It is so easy to listen to your mixes. I enjoyed this one.

Hi Ed,

I loved everything about this except for a few little things...if you don't mind me saying so?

You have a plosive or something after the word "planet" at 0:16/17 or so.

The lead vocals seem like all the good low end has been stripped from them. The way (please don't be mad at me Daryl, I love your voice and how you sing, I swear!) I mentioned to Daryl that is voice sounded a bit high endy....you're getting that same thing. I just think the vocals (though they do sound good, are processed really well) it almost sounds like you are being a little too sub-conscious with high passing them to me. They need more body or something man.

Other than that, this is really well done for a short time. You have a good handle on this already. The snare fits the tune really well. Kick drum is over-powering the bass guitar a bit much for my ears.

Filtered guitar at 3:07 was a nice touch! See what is happening on that guitar? That is almost what I am hearing on those vocals. Like the good lows are just being stripped out a little too much. Again, they sound good...just could use a little more body in my opinion on the 3 sets of speakers I've listened on.

Eq's on everything else seem wonderful! Great job! If by chance you are high passing the crap out of those vocals, don't over-do it....you got some room to play with allowing more lows in there brother. :)

Two hours!?!?!  WOW!! Sounds great!

I just spent about 2 hours on a new mix, and barely got through gain staging.  My next 2 hours will probably be spent tweaking the treble knob on my amp sim.

Been there done that too.

I also suspect that I'll be round that corner again some day.
