Hi,
I've got a new song out. It's called "A Miracle" - you can check it
out here:
https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13621549

I've had to wait a little while, as I was using a beta copy of Superior 3 and had to wait until it was announced ;-)

You won't hear anything drastic - but it is using the Pearl kit from S3
Otherwise - the usual suspects.
Made with SONAR (of course)
Trilian Bass
Some Kontakt instruments
the Strat and Tele
Uhe Diva

I also started using some new compressors, and mixed in to a little buss compression on the drum buss and main buss.

All comments welcome ;-)

Don't forget - CDs (including my newest one "Pull the Other One")
are also available at https://www.cdbaby.com/Artist/JohnBraner
and all the normal streaming services.

I enjoyed this alot.  The guitar (lead) sounds a little too close, maybe back off a smidge OR do reamping. This is a really cool song and sound.

Thanks a lot for listening eph - and for your comments ;-)

I agree, that tremolo guitar is too up front. You've got really good supporting instrumentation and they should stand out a bit more.

Love that simple groove in the bass, and the drums work really well.

Dan

Hi Dan,
Thanks a lot for listening and for your comments. I struggled a little with the drums, so nice to hear you like them.
The mix is a little "thick" and I know the trem guitar takes a lot, but to me - everything is based around that line ;-)

Very interesting tune this one, I like the glitch effects in the background really helps keep the interest and I liked the track as a whole. I get the whole idea behind the trem guitar and that the whole track is sort of built round it. However, I would just take it down a notch; nothing excessive but it may allow the other parts to be heard easier. Just my twopenneth.

Thanks for listening biodiode - it sounds like there's a pattern developing here.. ;-)

Can I add to the pattern?  :)

Freaking great groove once it gets started. Awesome and potential for more development! But like a waiter who tells you their life story before getting to the specials or taking your order, the intro tremolo guitar fest just eventually glazes one's eyes over, or mine at least.

Adding to the kabosh is the tremolo not being 100% in sync with the bpm. The longer the tremolo delay sustains, the less it's in time. I understand that can be used as a cool effect, so that might be your approach here.

You clearly know how to tremolo and there's plenty of it in your tune elsewhere, and it really adds to the vibe of course.

I really really liked it when the grooves kicked in!!!! Down and dirty it was! Well done!

I'd only add it took me a while to write the above, so I got to listen to more of your tunes on Soundclick, you've got some good ones up! Nice going and good writing/mixing!

cheers,
-Tom

Hi Tom,

I'm sorry if your eyes glazed over - patience is a virtue ;-)
I haven't got the commercial restraint of having to get to the point quickly - so I just take my time ;-)

You're right that the tremolo on the "lead" line is not in sync. It's on the amp sim (S-Gear Wayfarer) and I just treated it like it was a real amp, dialing in the tremolo to "close" to the song tempo. I like it drifting... ;-)

The chords have a tremolo stomp box (BIAS Pedal), so that one is sync'd to the tempo in SONAR.

Anyway - I'm glad you liked some parts of it. To me that's doing a pretty good job. You can never please *everybody*, mind you I don't even come close to that! ;-)

Understood, and I get it - I have a song "Mythical Sunshine" that has a ridiculously indulgent intro of a minute and a half, and most people called me on it, but it's something one gets attached to during the process of creating and by the end it's like lopping off an arm.

As you say, in the absence of any commercial considerations, one is free to do whatever the hell one wants. Not a bad deal, really.

And a good groove song is worth it, as your song proves.

cheers,
-Tom
