• SONAR
  • CbB and SPLAT on same machine - conflicts?

After an instance a few years back with "OK SPLAt won't run anymore" after a Windows update, I am totally paranoid about updating or changing anything.  I have the Bandlab installed in its own directory (different from SPLAT).  While SPLAT was running and CbB updating, I received an error that "the program is running".  But CbB wasn't.  Only SPLAT was running.  So.....

Is CbB mucking about in my SPLAT install?  Why would CbB update care about whether (or not) SPLAT was running?  They are two different programs located in two different directories.

Hi. I have both installed on my both my laptop and studio PC and haven't had any issues with it.
I have everything installed to its default settings on my laptop, and custom locations on my studio PC.
All the best.

No issues here, both on my desktop. But I only ever use CWbBL.

I also have both Sonar X3 Studio and now CbB (since April) and they both run great.  In fact, I can open projects created in Sonar in CbB and they load easy and complete tho there is a warning screen that says that some plugins or setting may not be the same since they (paraphrasing)"weren't created in this program" but from what I see, they load fine.  I hope you manage to find a solution to your problem.  Good luck!

I can see where there could be conflicts if sonarpdr.exe and cakewalk.exe were running at the same time. The latter is, after all, just a later revision of the former.

But as many here can attest, there is absolutely no problem in having them both installed on the same machine. That is in fact the most desirable combination, because you get to use all of SONAR's third-party goodies with Cakewalk.

No problems here but have not used Splat since acquiring CakeLab.

The installer cares if an older install is running because it could prevent certain shared components from being updated and result in a bad installation.
The application itself is completely independent and can be run in parallel with SONAR.

You really need to look into system backup images. Tons of free backup imaging utilities out there like Reflect Macrium or Ease US Todo, so the only expense is your time.  For about 15 minutes per backup, say, once a month, you get complete peace of mind... If any software issue leaves you dead in the water, you are 15 minutes away from restoring to your last clean backup state.

You'll need a second drive or partition to store backups, but other than that there are zero reasons not to do it, and multiple reasons why you should (The obvious one: Protects you from ANY software issue, so you never have to worry about it again).

CbB, SPlat, X3, X2, X1 all on the same machine. No problems.
