• SONAR
  • Plugin Delay Compensation - iZotope Neutron? [ ANSWERED! ]

I've discovered that if I put Neutron on ANY track and the try to record or even monitor input to another completely unrelated track I experience latency...(I don't have to actually play the project)  I can select the Neutron "Zero Latency" option and the latency does indeed disappear.  I have a tutorial video that states that Neutron's zero latency feature disables Neutrino and some other pieces of Neutron.  The tutorial video also states that most modern DAW's have latency compensation built it so turning on Neutron's latency feature should not be necessary.

This kinda sucks.  If I have a project completed and use Neutron on multiple tracks it means that if I discover I have to re-record a track or add another track I have to go back and turn Neutron zero latency on in ever track where it exists or turn Neutron off on ever track.

1)  How do I insure SONAR's latency compensation is turned on?
2)  Can anyone else verify my issue?

PDC is always on unless the PDC button is lit in the Mix module or all FX are bypassed (another button in the Mix module). Read about it here http://www.cakewalk.com/D...help=Recording.22.html

Latency compensation is different from live input latency. Basically, literally every plugin you use causes some kind of latency. For some plugs this is very little, but any processing takes time. What Plugin Latency Compensation means is that Sonar calculates all these different latencies and makes sure the different tracks with all different plugs still line up on playback. This is done by playing tracks with latency heavy plugins a little earlier than those with no or very light plugins. Obviously this doesn't work for live input - your live input will just be delayed in order to line up with the tracks with the heavy plugs. The solution is to turn off PDC for your input using the PDC button in the control bar during recording.

It is  recommend by passing all effect bins while tracking, or at least heavy "look ahead" types.  you run the risk of your track being a little out of sync. For me its any of the LP type I make sure are off. This really is more true when I try and play my controller. If an LP effect is active I'll get as much as 20 seconds of delay.

EXCELLENT!  The PDC button works perfectly.  Thanks for your help.

I'm assuming this is a typo and you meant 20 milliseconds of delay?!

Actually no,, I'm not sure how long but it's almost a half a minute.
I always realize what's happening right away.
You hit a key and go get a cup of coffee.

Huh. That seems excessive. You only get this on live input? Or does it also take 20 seconds for playback to start after hitting the spacebar? I'm sure it's only a minor inconvenience but it sounds like something is going seriously wrong there. I've never had ANY plugin cause more than a fraction of a second in latency even with my on board soundcard in MME mode.

I changed the title of this thread to more accurately describe the issue.
