How can I bring in my "Custom User Scales" presets from previous versions of Sonar into Sonar Platinum ?
 
I mean, I wish there was a better way we could manage custom scales, maybe be able to store them as files like we do for many other presets and be able to import them. Right now I just can't figure out where these custom scales are stored. If there's no way to import them, then looks like I have to create them all over again in Platinum. Now this is cumbersome to say the least, when there may be so many one may have created in previous versions.
 
I am hoping somebody in the Sonar community has faced the same situation and I sure hope there's some way to get custom scales from previous versions into Platinum. Please chip in...

For Plat scales appear to be saved in the registry under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR\Platinum\Scales
 
I also see entries for other versions, example X3 Prod scales are under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\X3\Scales
 
The key names and values don't look like something I could easily decode, and I have no idea how you would go about digging them out of other versions and importing them into the correct place.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\X3\Scales\{E60D185B-9FFD-4EDE-9FB7-B6F97AFFA883}
 
If you are comfortable with regedit, it is pretty easy to export from a previous version and import into the Platinum path. That is all you need to do. If you need more info, let me know.

I'll tell you what I did so you can be smarter too. Based on the info you provided, I decided to perform a test.
 
I ran X3 and added an entry into the Custom User Scales.
Exported the X3 key from the registry
Changed the path in the .reg file to the Platinum path
Merged the .reg file
Ran Platinum and Custom User Scales showed the entry as it was created in X3.

If you need more help let me know. It is not that bad, after exporting the key just be careful when editing the .reg file. All you need to change is the path at the top of the file (the part in red).

Leave the rest of the file alone. It should contain your scale definitions which look like this one I created called test

I am sort of getting the hang of this. Sure looks like a great time saver. Only thing that comes to my mind is that this process possibly replaces the registry entry in Platinum to what was there in X3 say. I just wonder how the outcome would be if there are different scales in X3 and many others were newly created in Platinum which may not have been there in X3. By the replacement of registry entry, would I lose what I may have newly created in Platinum ? That would be something to check for sure.
 

This is a good question and one which you can answer yourself with a little experimentation.
I encourage you to perform the tests yourself. First make sure to create a backup of the the existing Platinum key. Once you have a backup, the worst that can happen is you will need to merge it back. It may be necessary to do a little cut an paste to create the .reg file you want.
 
Again this stuff is not hard but it is not very forgiving either. Backups are important.

I went the other way.  I started with a custom scale in Plat and searched for that.
