  • Sonar Platinum crashing when opening plugins due to FocusriteUSBASIO64.Dll Module

I can't find the answer anywhere, I've uninstalled/installed, updated drivers etc.  My computer is top of the line and I am using a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 interface in Sonar Platinum. When I open certain plugins such as Kontakt 5, Sonar crashes with the crash display

Crash module: Focursriteusbasio64.dll
C0000005

I realized it is due to the ASIO drivers because  when I disabled them Sonar does not crash at all.

Any help would be great, this is getting extremely frustrating

Thanks,
Andreas

I'll try to help you here, Andreas, but have you contacted Focusrite about this? Also, are you open to using something other than the Focusrite ASIO drivers?

I have not contacted them and if it wouldn't effect my performance I would be willing to use something else

Okay, first off...

1.) Have you downloaded the latest drivers from Focusrite?

2.) Have you tried a different USB port (try USB2 if using USB3, or vice-versa)

3.) Have you tried installing/using the 32-bit Focusrite ASIO drivers?

I believe when you install the drivers, you are given the option to install 32-bit or 64-bit. 32-bit is okay on a 64-bit system, but not the other way around.

If 32-bit drivers don't work, try booting Windows with a clean boot to see if there is a software conflict.

I don't think that's the case.  You can run 32-bit applications on a 64-bit system but drivers have to be 64-bit.

While it looks like driver related, some settings in Sonar can can the reason. I would suggest set everything into "safe" position: ASIO buffer size 512/1024+, check ASIO number of bits (and if you can choose, set lower value) and the project number of bits.

If you do not use synth at all, I mean just one audio track with some content and "Play" it, does it crashes? If not, try to play in a loop and check for cracks/pops. Try to start something in parallel (f.e. web browser), does that influence the sound?

May/may not be related.  Maybe the interfaces use the same drivers.  This was posted at Akai by a user having problems VIP.

==================
I received this information from Focusrite support (18 Oct 2016):
"We are aware of a problem that can cause particular 64-bit software/plugins to crash when used with the 2nd Generation 2i4. We are aiming to release a new driver on our beta site later this week which includes a change that should fix this on the majority of systems."
Hopefully my system falls into "the majority" and this will fix VIP_exe.64 crash......
