How does it differ from the ProChannel PC-2A?

Same thing.

... only different? You can use it outside PC and with other DAWs whereas the PC-2A is PC exclusive. Sounds and operates the same otherwise.

The CA-2A is a significant upgrade to the PC2A which was only for the Pro Channel.
This current free release is an update to the CA2A.
The CA2A is a VST3/2 as well as Pro Channel.

There are a few bug fixes and also updates to allow it to work as AU and AAX. If you already have it you may as well update to the latest version since its also built with the newest compiler.

I recently purchased lifetime platinum. (august or so)  I have used command center install all updates.  Will this show up there as a download option.  Or perhaps I have it and don't even know.  How do find out?

You can look in the Command Center and see if it shows up as installed and up to date.  Or within Sonar you can add an effect to any track and see if it exists as an option to install.

I have had a similar question to the O.P.'s all along - a good example is Addictive Drums.  When I purchase an outside plug-in, and then it gets added as a freebie within Sonar, how do I know when Sonar has a "light" version so that I don't install / update a light version over my better, purchased version, versus Sonar's freebie being the full Monty?  With AD I have the full package, latest, so I have never allowed the Command Center to "upgrade" the Sonar version for fear I'll overwrite my full package.  But what about other plug-ins that are similarly available from vendors (I think some Softube applications fall in this category) - how do we know what's a full version that should be upgraded, and what's a "light" version?

Just curious... I see the front panel is hinged so which screws do I loosen to change the tubes when they finally fail?

Which tube brand "sounds" the best and where can I get them?

Just curious...

I used an online digital phillips screwdriver to get the front panel off, and changed the tubes to NOS virtual Mullards
