The control bar is collapsed and I can't find where to permanently un collapse it. The functions are all on top but I have to scroll over the "Tools, Transport, "etc. Then they collapse again.

Right click on an empty part of the bar. The selections will let you organize it the way you want.

Thank you. Such a simple procedure, but if you don't know where to look...

I'm glad you responded that way. I answered another question not unlike yours earlier today. In the reply the poster put himself down.  I was thinking that when one doesn't know something it seems impossible to figure it out. Knowing the answer makes it seem simple. As with quantum physics not knowing makes that unfathomable too. Where knowing makes that somewhat simple. Its all in the knowing or at least where to start looking.   There is no magic to it its why this forum is here. Its very rewarding to be the one that can answer. Because when each of us started out it seemed unknowable.

Todd John has always been a class act and has helped me and countless others many times.  You will find this forum to be a useful and friendly place - as long as you avoid trash talk about people or products.

BTW - Todd W McK?  I am a McKenzie.

John,
I appreciate the help. Keep up the good work. (Thoughtful reply, too.)

Space Cowboy,
McKinney. Probably a link somewhere back in time.

As I was learning I consistently poked around "Right Click" menus in all the areas of the program to see what options would popup. With such a complex and feature rich program there's just TONS of things all over the place and often times the options are different depending on various factors like whether something is selected or whatever. I did the same thing with the "Global" menus and the various menus that appear in different views (like Track View, Console View, etc).

Bit of a time waster at first but in the long run just getting familiar with these massive piles of context sensitive options has sped things up now that I'm more familiar with the program and plowing through projects (I don't have to constantly reach for the manual to remember where something is).

Even to this day I probe around all these submenus if I get stuck/forget exactly how to do something. Just perusing them with a bit of learned intuition (like I have a "feel" that I last saw the thingie I'm looking for in a certain area) I can unjam myself from the problem without cracking the manual or harassing the fine ladies and germs here.

tl;dr...

Explore all the menus whenever you can just to see what's where and why. If you see something interesting but don't know what it is... check the manual or search the intertubes.

Makes brain big and mighty for music mekkin'!
