  • Dimension Pro can't find programs (multisamples are ok though) help

I've been using DPro for ages, with the factory content and many expansion packs I got over the years.
I always had my multisamples located in the F:/Data drive and can change registry to point Dpro multisampels to that drive if needed.
That's good.
But now I have a new PC, install went on ok, Dpro can find it's multisampels @ F:/Data but the programs in Program Browser won't show most of my current programs, including for example Digital_Sound_Factory-Symphonic_Strings_HD, that pack is installed in the good directory (multismaples, wab and sfz) but still Dpro can't find it.
Re-install wont solve this.

it seems I have the programs *.prog in the usual location
C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Programs
But the sfz are in the multisamples folder. This is like that on my previous PC and Laptop, still Dpro can list those programs in the multisalles folder along with the factory programs.

Why?

Shpoudl I copy all my sfz to    C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Programs ???

I don't think so cause I never did this before.

Any ideas/help are much welcome.
Cheers

Do not more the programs from ProgramData.
sfz files belong in the Multisamples folder.
If the DPro browser is not showing programs, open the DPro program browser and refresh it with F5.

Hey Scook, thanks.
Refreshing does nothing, only if I copy one SFZ (just to watch what happens)  to the ProgramData folder, then F5 shows that program, but the loads of SFZ on ProgramData wont show...
So programs are shown, but the programs related to my SFZ files are absent...

Ok, I think I understand. You see everything but the *.progs from some 3rd party expansion packs. Do you have RPro installed? If so, my guess is the programs loaded there. Or if an old installer, look for the programs in an unexpected location like "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro"

Yes, I guess you've got it: the missing PROGs are located in
Cakewalk Content\Rapture Pro\Programs\Dimension Pro (legacy)\

so I guess my RaPro install moved them there somehow and DimPro  didn't got the news...

So how to point DimPro to that folder?

Or are we supposed (once we've got RapPro) to just let go DimPro and use RapPro instead?

RPro does not move programs. During install RPro copies legacy program folders into the Rpro program tree. I believe some expansion pack installers are installing programs into RPro instead DPro now. It is possible to use a directory junction to point "C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Programs" to the RPro location. Using the default RPro program location the syntax for the command is:
mklink /j "C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Programs" "C:\Cakewalk Content\Rapture Pro\Programs\Dimension Pro (legacy)"

Before running this command, rename or delete the existing "C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Programs" and mklink needs to be run as administrator. There is no other way that I know of to force DPro to read programs from other than ProgramData. Personally, I would not use a directory junction in this case. I would copy the programs from the "Dimension Pro (legacy)" to the old DPro programs folder in ProgramData.

Since you have RPro, I would recommend not using DPro or Rapture for any new projects. Unfortunately until VST Persist Compatibility is added to RPro (see my feature request http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3415392) we are stuck maintaining DPro and Rapture installations for old projects. That and there are some DPro and Cakewalk Sound Center programs which do not play correctly in RPro.

I'll rather copy the programs and mostly try to not stick to Dim Pro in the future, I'm still using it for some reason.

I second your feature request, seems logical.
