I too have to say I was skeptical about the subscription model and the promise of rolling updates but I have been pleasantly surprised. So far it has gone well.

Not to get OT but in the vein of Billy Buck's post, whenever I see the Chuck Jones name I am reminded of the old Warner Bros. cartoons. Not from the content of his posts but strictly the name.

I agree - Sonar has improved significantly over the last 18 months. It has to be difficult for the development team to not ever have "downtime", but it's certainly in the my (i.e. the customer's) favor.

hard not to love sonar, i've gone lifetime.

in stark contrast to my vegas pro experience. sony basically stopped development for 2 years, then recently sold to magix. lotta probs on the new vegas site. after using vegas since v1.1, i, one among many, never got the upgrade email, they upped the price, arbitrarily changed the interface for the worse... long story short, i'll use my current version of vegas if i need to, otherwise i've "moved on" to resolve 12.5.2. it's a robust, contemporary program that, in the same two-year period, went from an industry-standard color correction tool to a full-featured nle! and it's free!

cakewalk gets my lifetime commitment, magix gets replaced as my nle vendor, i saved $249 (i'll add cw plugin extras of course) and life goes on...

My exact experience with Vegas Pro too dlion16. I loved that software, though I can't help but think it's very gradual demise began when Sony bought out Sonic Foundry in 2003.

I originally got into Sonar because it's what a friend was using and we wanted interoperability. Over the years, though, I've never regretted it, and I agree that the most recent iterations are fantastic. Certainly not perfect, yet, but always better and better. I have my list of features I would love to see, as does everyone, but mostly I perfectly satisfied. The only gripe is that with the rolling updates I now update Sonar more often than I publish new music, and that's just embarrassing!

Right you are, tenfoot.

I did a couple of remakes of old stuff in resolve. There's a wealth of tutorials and when I needed to do a freeze frame, for instance, I was able to Google it and get the answer quickly. Must say, I'm impressed. Won't take that long to acclimate, what vegas should have become…

Kudos to cakewalk.

Showed a class a Vietnamese  year olds a 'How to draw Bugs' video by Chuck Jones last week. I was surprised by how many were blown away by it.
