Hi everybody,
i'm working with drum loops (Smart Loops). Since the new Sonar update 2016.09 (perhaps in previous version 2016.08) something is wrong with loops. Please try it:
1. Create a new project
2. Set a drum loop in Track 1 and strech it over 4 measures
3. Set on measure 5 a tempo change to 150 bpm
4. Put a drum loop at measure 5 in Track 1 and strech it over 4 measures.
5. Save and close the project
6. Open the project and look what the last drum loop does. It automaticly expands to 4.5 measures and set a crossfade to the end of the clip, although option is disabled.

It seems that has do to with time changing in a project. Could someone confirm that behavior?
Thanks
Harry

Harry -

I have seen and reported that behavior.

We'll look into it.  Do you recall when this first started happening?  Are you dragging the loops onto take lanes or just the track?

Keith,
i think it was in 2016.08 when i noticed it the first time. I dragging the loops just onto the track.
Important is to insert a time change in the project.

I had same problem ca. one month ago. There was time changes in my Project.

... and how do you fixed it? Delete time change isn't an option, i need it for that song :-)

I disabled groove-looping. Normal audio clips were ok, without fades. But it was annoying and time-consuming (with work in tempo changes). And in the next project, I had no problems with groove-loops. It's strange. Here is my post about it:

Hi Keith,
could you verify it in the meantime?

I verified what you see, excellent recipe to reproduce . In response to Keith's question, the same thing happens whether you drag into tracks or take lanes.

The only workaround I can figure out, which isn't exactly wonderful, is to render the loops after the tempo change before you save. Locking Data + Position didn't help.

Here's another approach I came up with after verifying the problem

1.  Set your base tempo for the project
2.  Drag in your loops, extend/position them how you want them
3.  BEFORE you insert any tempo changes, select all of the loops, right click and choose Bounce to Clip(s)
4.  The loops will now be joined into a single audio clip.  With this clip selected, select Clips in the Inspector and open the Groove Clips category.
5.  Check the Stretch to Tempo option (note that this will auto uncheck the Looping option)
6.  Insert the tempo changes thru your project

The clip will automatically follow tempo changes as you would expect and won't add fades when you Save/Close/Open
