hi!
i'm getting this (pitcure on google drive):

is there any way to optimize the lanes to automatically delete empty tracks and to arrange everything in order to fit the minimum numer of track lanes possible??
in sonar 8.5 it was very easy...

I totally agree!

I think that this matter have been discussed a lot of times.

It would be a gread idea to fix this problem.

Right click on any clip header in parent track and select remove empty lanes.

Unfortunately this is not a big deal:

I frequently get several and "incremental" lanes (not empty) and - as in old Sonar versions - it would be a good thing to have an option to "rearrange" all the clips to reduce them.

I just do Shift+drag. Not automatic, but doesn't take much time given that you can select multiple clips and move them all at once.

I do the same, ehehe....

I think I've found a much easier way to do this than moving clips. It even works with clips that overlap, as long as you don't mind them playing at the same time. I'll test it some more and if it continues to work as expected, I'll do a video for tomorrow's "Friday's Tip of the Week."

Well it does seem to work, and it also saves the step of deleting empty tracks. However...before I take the time to do a video, can you give me an idea of your desired use case if Flatten Comp isn't good enough? Also, are you assuming that some of the clips overlap, or that none of them overlap? In your screen shot, none of them do; this makes the process easier.

Thank you and I am curious on this matter.
In my situation, recording clips, I usually end with many increasing lanes, (example: clip1 on lane 1, clip2 on lane 2 an so on...) ending maybe with 10 lanes or so.... (every time I hit REC a new lane is created...).
In the old sonar versions you hade the opportunity with a single command to end with 2 or 3 lane max (just because when I start recording a new section usually I start a couple of bars before.. so they do overlap a bit).
Let us know what is your suggestion.
Thank you,
Giorgio

I would love to know a work around for this as well.  I usually have lots of track lanes because I will record 3 or four takes of one section of a song and then move on and loop another section.  After doing 4 or 5 sections I can have 20 or more lanes but only some lead in of each section overlap.  I usually just lasso select and shift-drag to get all the takes in the first 4 or 5 lanes and then remove empty take lanes.
